Happy Friday, folks!It's been a while...
I've been completely overwhelmed with work lately and that's why the last few days/week I've been absent from these parts. Yet, being so overworked has its perks (or at least I've found some
) and binge watching awesome series is one of 'em. Case in point: Stranger Things.Holy. Shit.
I know a lot has been said about this amazing series, so there's nothing new I can add to the accolades. I will say, though, that I'm glad that TV has become such a refuge for great storytelling lately. As much as I was always wary of its format I must admit that it is great to be able to tell a better tale and develop the characters much more than you could in film. Special effects have also reached a point in which they're almost indistinguishable from its film conterparts and even surpass them if the production value is as good as the ones I've been seeing lately.Β
Stranger Things mixes a lot of dearly beloved tropes and archetypes that not only makes it an amazing show, but has a very distinct flavor and style of its own. In a way, this story could both inhabit the time period its set in AND the 21st century.
I couldn't afford to do more than just a small MiniCharacter study of the main characters, which the kid actors completely own!
But I couldn't physically take any more time out of my schedule, so I hope you enjoy and let me know what you thought os the series if you've seen it... or go watch it now if you haven't! I recently just started watching the show too, and you're quite right. There is this certain draw to it. And a creepiness without having to rely on gross-outs or other methods like that. Still only a few episodes in, but for some strange reason, I've started thinking about the Goonies after watching the kids perform. Considering how much I love that movie, I'd say that is a very good thing.

Yes! Amazing to see you do a take on L and the Party.
Stranger Things is amazing, and it seems that we share almost every positive thought about the show.
Just a few days ago I told all my friends to watch the show via this text:
"If you have Netflix, go watch Stranger Things. If you don't have Netflix, get a trial month and watch Stranger Things. If you watch nothing else, the money for the trial will have been worth it for this series alone.
It's... Amazing.
It's hard to define it. It's mystery. It's conspiracy. It's drama. It's 80s. But it's also from 2016 with an AMAZING musical score, a top-tier soundtrack, really cool actors and child actors that won't make you want to punch their stupid heads.
It's X-Files and the Goonies and Twin Peaks and Eerie, Indiana. Set in the 80. (Funnily enough, in Indiana.) (Also with a dash of Oxenfree. Especially score wise.)
And it opens with four young teenage boys playing DnD without it being cringy.
And while it's still mostly white, and mostly male, both the female and black main characters are AMAZING. They're pro-active, role-model material and thoroughly bad-ass. Especially Nancy (Holy shit, Nancy. That girl has ice water in her veins. She'll... Surprise people.) and L. And both teens and kids act intelligently and competently. And when they fuck up interpersonal relations, they do so for actually logical reasons. But otherwise they're so much less stupid than most feature-production characters. Even adult ones.
I /heartily/ recommend it. It's great.
