Description
This year seems to be stripping us of many legends. This time, it's the great Christopher Lee that's left us.I remember that one of the very first characters I saw him perform was his Dracula. And something stuck with me through all the Hammer films I later watched and became especially poignant in his superb rendition of the traitor Saruman: his eyes. Those deep, black eyes seemed to conjure an indescribable fear that Sir Christopher put to very good use in his career. Coupled with his booming voice and flawless acting, he helped bring to life some of the most compelling villains in movies.
Speaking of the aforementioned fallen wizard, being the passionate fan that I am of Tolkien's work, back when I saw the LotR trilogy his character seemed to me to be the most accomplished in regards to the original material. He was also one of the few actors that had read Tolkien's work and was a huge fan too; thus bringing the very core of the book to his performance. For me, his Saruman will always be THE Saruman I'll picture reading the book and as with all great artists, his legacy will be remembered for years to come thus rendering him truly immortal.
This is a piece I'd done quite a while ago in my ocassional spare time but hadn't posted as I am always unsure about my interpretation of The Professor's work. But, having based my Saruman in Sir Lee's likeness I think it's only fitting I use this illustration as a tribute to his passing.
May you forever haunt us, Christopher!

Really love Saruman's expression in it, it seems like you could have been watching the movie when doing this cuz the likeness is spot on, lolz he seemed to always frown most of the movies, goes to show he's a serious actor, a legend.
It's a good thing he finished the Hobbit movies cuz it wouldn't be the same without him. It would be like a puzzle missing an important piece of the picture.

Thank you! At some point, he was almost not going to be involved in The Hobbit (due to his age); but we're all very lucky that he was able to make it indeed.

I knew him first as King Haggards voice, from "the last Unicorn".
I can remember that I was fascinated, enthralled, by tone and timbre and pacing... Saruman indeed ^^.

The combination of both his deep voice and his eyes made him a truly unique actor indeed.

surprisingly, Saruman isn't my favorite role that he played. For me, I always see him as Count Dooku, I really loved his portrayal of him.

I sometimes think Dooku was created after Christopher Lee and not the other way around and agree that his performance was amazing as usual.
