I mean... that's kind of easy to do. almost every single weapon today is build with magazines under the rifling instead of atop.

Sure with rifles of today, but with the Bren's magazine? Good luck! That's pretty much why they put it on the top. There's a reason almost all guns don't use magazines that are that long and curve that much anymore.
