You'll have to forgive me for this. I've only just started messing around with colored pencils, and I think my technique is somewhat amateurish. There's so many things wrong with this picture, I don't know where to begin. Other than just overall bad drawing, the colors are so wonky. I'm fed up with the pinkish background. I knew I wanted something to contrast with the black chess pieces, but pink? What the hell. Anyways, I spent so long on this, I might as well put it up.So, if you can't tell, this is Ron, Hermione, and Harry on the giant chess board from the Sorcerer's Stone (or Philosopher's Stone, let me cover my bases with the Brits).

I like the abstractness, it gives a certain impression that's cool.

It's not a perfect picture, but it has a great deal of energy and style. The pink background *is* odd, given the setting, but it does give the whole piece a slightly surreal, abstract feeling. What I like most, though, and what inspired me to comment (instead of just wandering past in a daze) is Hermione's face. And her hair. They're both lovely, and well-drawn, and pretty without leaving the viewer feeling like you've imposed your own vision upon canon Hermione.

Hey, thanks for your thoughtful review! I appreciate any critique. Hopefully, I know a bit more about colored pencils by now not to make the same mistakes again. I like Hermione's face too, its the only reason I didn't trash the whole thing.

If you diss your coloring again, I swear to God, I will beat you with a hammer, because you're breaking my fragile ego here. DO YOU WANT ANOTHER DEPRESSED TEENAGER IN THE WORLD?????
Anyway, the colors do look a little blocky on the people. I think you did pretty well with the chess pieces, though. And you know the rule. Practice, practice, practice. Even if it kills you.

I think it looks really good, and since I got to see a lot of it in person I appreciate it all the more cause I can't figure out how in the hell you get that to scan. Maybe I need to get a real scanner.

It took four scans to get all the pieces, then I just re-assembled them in Photoshop. Patience young grasshopper.

I can see why you wouldn't like, but the metric things (squares, rectangles and diamonds) are very interesting.

Dont down yourself this is great, and I dont even like Harry Potter...I suck at pencil but all the cross hatching and fading is so perfect..Harry shorts are a bit 'short' though

That's one of my favorites too! A lot of people misread it as a Harry/Hermione shipper pic, but it's not that at all.

I don't understand why would anyone consider this pic, or any of your pics to be intended for any particular ship, since you just draw scenes from the books. Period. IMHO your "potion task" pic is a wonderful illustration, and I love what you did with the bottles in that pic. If you ever submit it here it will be an automatic fav for me!
BTW, I love your artwork and really believe you have talent. You should do this (illustrations) profesionally, in case you are not doing it yet.

( i never use colored pencils. all my cartoons are black and white)
