open Illustrator..goto EDIT>references>lugins & Scratch Disks> under Scratch Disks change 'rimary' and 'secondary' from 'startup' to C:, D:, E: or whatever drive partition you have...chose the ones with the most free space.but make sure not to chose the same drive for primary and secondary.then press ok.exit and restart illustrator.

you can do the same thing with photoshop
