Wondeful photo! It is so detailed! I really love your gallery, it's amazing.

Could you tell me what lens did you use for this photo? Maybe you have a list of your lenses somewhere?

Hello,

Thank you.  This particular photo was taken with a Tamron 70-300. For animal pics i use that lens or a Canon 70-200.

I also use a Tamron 17-50, without the anti shake, because I read somewhere that the lens was better quality without it.  And some of my early pictures were taken with the stock lens that came with the Canon T3i, Grand Central Noir pic for example.

Thanks a lot! Do you mean 70-200 f/2.8 or f/4? I want to get the f/4 one, only don't know yet if IS would really be helpful with animal photography.

Hello, yes, sorry the F4.   The IS would be really important in think because of the nature of animals, you have to move and hand hold to get the shot etc.  I went with a non IS function on a lense that I use for buildings and interiors etc, but those don't really move and I can use a tripod.

Thank you! Does IS really help with anything when an animal is moving? I mean, you still won't have time to get longer exposure then.

And isn't it noisy?

nigel3 In reply to panna-cotta [2013-10-05 06:08:28 +0000 UTC]

Yes... it helps..i think.. not because the animal is moving but because the camera is usually moving very fast to keep up with the animal, and because its a longer lens it magnifies the movement etc.  I feel that it gives me just that extra reassurance that the lens has that extra stability.

Not sure if its noisy, its relative.  I tend to just tune it out.  the animals wont be effected as I am further away hence the longer lens.

But I dont always think like all photographers, you should google it to see what others say.
