Description

"The timing of my escape couldn't have been worse. I was attacked by Space Pirates and left nearly defenseless, stripped of my Power Suit. All I had for protection was my rather useless emergency pistol. Infiltrating the Space Pirate Mother Ship so armed may have been foolish, but I had no choice..."

Metroid: Zero Mission is an amazing game, and the stealth section at the end (which obviously served as inspiration for this drawing) was really good, in my opinion. However, despite my love for the game, Samus' Zero Suit design from it never really vibed with me, and I'm not too enthusiastic about how it became her standard Power Suit-less portrayal in the canon from then on. (Although it's better than a bikini, I suppose.) So here's a take on her iconic look in a slightly more realistic style, inspired by her portrayals in Metroid: Samus Returns, Super Metroid, and Metroid Fusion.

The Zero Suit is more of a regular jumpsuit here, made of a breathable sturdy fabric and not skintight; I redesigned the darker blue patterns on a whim. The boots and wristbands (perhaps with microcomputer or communicator devices giving them some function?) are based on the ones from Metroid Fusion. Samus' hair is a less artificial shade of blond and also wavy, in homage to the original Metroid, of which Zero Mission was after all but a remake. Her physical appearance is basically the same as shown in the well-known Super Metroid promotional art, but younger and more tired. (Yeah, I'm one of those people who think of Samus as being around six feet tall, athletic and broad shouldered, because seriously how would she wear the Power Suit otherwise? Heels, you say? What heels?)

In the background are a wary Red Zebesian and a blue door within sprinting distance... it was hard to figure out how the door would look based on a 2D view of the side. Turns out human anatomy is difficult too. Oh well, practice time...

Metroid belongs to Nintendo. I'm going to die of Dread hype one of these days, I swear Nintends-
