Since they were back in Kalos for a few days, Ash and Pikachu decided to visit Serena, who was also back home. Naturally, she was quite exited about it. When they went to her room, she showed them a strange Pokeball she had discovered that morning. She had no idea where it came from, and she couldn't open it, so she was planning to show it to professor Sycamore tomorrow. While she went downstairs to get some snacks, Ash tried tinkering with it a bit to see if he could get it to open. Suddenly, the ball opened up and released a bright flash of light at him and Pikachu that seemed to fully engulf their bodies.

When Serena heard his yell and saw some of the light from downstairs, she immediately ran upstairs to see what was going on. When she entered the room, the two were nowhere to be seen. Even stranger, the Pokeball was shaking like it had just caught a Pokemon, as well as glowing a bit. When it opened up, it released a familiar blob of energy, except in a different color than regular Pokeballs. Based on the volume of the energy, she assumed it was releasing a Flabebe or a similarly tiny Pokemon. Naturally, she was shocked at what actually came out, as was Ash when he could finally make out his surroundings.

When all of them had finally calmed down a bit, they immediately tried to figure out how this happened, and how to fix this mess. Ash told her what he did with the Pokeball, and she thought that doing it again might reverse the effect. But when she finally got it to open up, she got caught up in the flash as well. When the light disappeared, she was still holding Ash and Pikachu, who were still the same size as before. Before she could think that nothing had changed at all, she realized that she wasn't standing on her carpet, but the place-mat covering part of her desk. The change became even more obvious when her mother, who had heard her yelling once she went back into the house, walked into her room. Naturally, both she and Fletchling were quite surprised at what they saw.
