Taken at Zoo of São Paulo, BrazilMy last visit to the zoo really made me get the blues... Caged animals are not something really nice to see...
Anyway I could take this pic of this wonderful animal, definitely my favourite, a female of an European Wolf (Canis lupus). And at least their place is one of the best in all the zoo.
If you feel alone, just howl to the moon!

I dislike zoos as well, but there are also the good things about them. But I feel nothing should be locked up in a cage.

De facto também não sou grande apreciador de zoos. Mas em relação á foto, de facto o lobo fêmea é lindissimo e o modo como o captaste tambem. Acho importante de referir que fizeste muito bem em desfocar as grades, mostra cuidado na foto e para mim da muito mais enfase ao tema. Continua assim nightdriver

great photograph! Title really matches the picture. The wolf looks like he's a bit depressed...When you think about it, it's a shame they put these wild animals behind bars for us to see. But for most of us, this is the only way to see this kind of animals in real life...

Don´t know if that´s so needed for us to see them alive... We now have videos... I used to like zoos, but visiting them as a grownup is totally different. Kids crying and teasing them, that´s not fun. and that´s everyday. But I still agree that zoos are nice for research and preservation...

I do agree on the preservational and research aspect. But the kids everyday crying and teasing them is really somethings that irritates me... If only adults were allowed, maybe, or if strict silence was asked, maybe that would be something better.

Oh this is my favourite animal!!! How horrible that they are put in cages, wolves are not an animal to live behind bars.
I've been to a zoo where the wolves actually have a pretty good place to stay (but I don't know if it's enough...) They have very much space... forrest, fields etc. so the visitors can't be certain to be able to see the wolves. I'm going there this summer, looking forward to it. The zoo is in Norway, it's called Kristiansand Dyrepark. Very nice! I think the animals there are thriving!

Those kind of parks are really nice, trying to simulate the habitat of the animals! The idea of not being certain to see the animals is also great. That´s very close to what happens in nature, heh? When I was working in Pantanal, as a tour guide, (Pantanal is a wetlands area, with a very interesting and abundant fauna), there were times we went out and didn´t see any animals other than small birdies. And others when we could see lots of different nice animals. That´s part of the adventure!

I'm glad there are parks like these in several places, it's much better for the animals, thus they are healthier and happier... and probably reproduce even in capture.
besides... animals should be treated good... because they are living creatures like ourselves.
I'd love to visit Yellowstone National Park in the US... i've seen tv-programmes from that park... it's really nice!

Oh, Yellowstone is a natural area. Other stuff, ya? They have a good structure. But here in Brazil we have many natural parks worth visiting also. Give us a try!!
