I would try using some sort of defuser to soften the light. You might also try a softer light and moving it away from your backdrop so that it will not light it up so badly. You also don't need such a long exposure time. That will help with the background also. Beautiful model and outfit.

thanks for the comments - I just have some questions - why do you say the backdrop is light up badly and I do need a long exposure time to keep ISO low to reduce noise. I did use umbrellas on all but the highlight boom.

First of all I just wanted to make clear that I really enjoy your work, and I think you are taking some great shots. I totally agree with keeping the noise down, and the best way to do that is having a low ISO. I just think this picture would look better if the background was completely black. If you can manually play with the shutter time or the fstop, you can make the images dark enough that the background wont show up, yet the subject is still lit. I tried this technique with my DevID. I only used one overhead light that was defused. My shot is a little darker than what I think you are looking for, but if you used a couple of lights and changed your shutter speed a little you can get a image you are happy with. I would be interested in seeing how the picture would look without the highlight boom. The top of the models head and shoulders are hotspots that I think can be avoided. Let me know what you think.

This is another pic that I did not post from the same shoot [link] (uploaded just for you) - is this something like what you were meaning? I do appreciate you taking the time to make constructive comments. Thanks Kevin

I cannot reshoot the shoot now but here is the darkest of the shot I took - the trade off "to me" was that I losts definition in the black outfit with lower exposure. Trade off of using a dark background. Yes the highlight could have been defused and lessened the highlighting. Thanks for the comments Kevin

You have great comments - but one problem is the dress would look only black to on this shot - I will not be able to repeat the shot at least for a month or more. The model is over 6 hours away. I agree definately the I should play with the highlight boom more. I appreciate your comments and suggestions!!!

I agree that there is a chance you could lose some of the definition of the outfit. Its something that would have to be played with. That is such an interesting outfit that you certainly want to make the most of it. Karma is a very beautiful model. Where is she located? Is she available to shoot with other photographers? I would love to work with her if she is interested. Send me a note!

I did bracket it and I picked the middle ground - it is a sheer outfit - I should of had her farther from the backdrop
