Description

So many people have been asking me to make a feline tutorial, but since there are tons of different types of felines, I would have to make several tutorials to cover most of them. I decided to start with cheetahs, and I'll be doing tigers and lions at some point along with smaller cats. I am not doing every kind of cat, only cats that I'm used to drawing.

Anyway, I hope you find this helpful~

The only thing wrong with this is that cheetahs calws are actually more dog like. Not at all like a felines. They don't retract they stay extended.

Yup, I am aware of that, but normally I draw cheetahs without claws. When I do draw them with claws, it's to emphasize power, aggression or another intense emotion. I added paws with claws in the 'eyes and other details' because I consider it just a detail, but it really depends on what style you use. :>

No I meant they aren't meant for cutting or scratching. They are meant for holding something. A cheetah's main source of killing is actually there teeth. When hunting and capturing pray they grab the hind quarters just long enough to drag down their meal and they quickly grab hold of the animals neck with their maws. Biting down hard enough and staying in said position till it's pray finally dies. So power, aggression, and other intense emotion as the such, would be better emphasized correctly through their power jaws, and it isn't long after till their pray stops moving. Also did you know that a cheetah is a very shy and timid creature? They also don't roar or meow like other animals such as house cats or big cats. They chirp like birds. Also cubs are born black and white like a honey badger to ward off predators such as the lion, hyena, humans.

But you probably don't care about all that useless information.

I still find your tutorial very useful in the anatomy though.
