Description
Reader x Lithuania – Invisible ScarsNote: This plot was inspired by what I read from Lithuania’s wiki page. It stated he had many scars on his back, so I wanted to use that in the story. Also sorry if he is OOC!
“Vell (Name), vhat do you vish to do?”
His words echoed through the room as the once noisy countries fell silent. Much anticipation was felt as they waited almost impatiently for you to choose. Each wanted to get to know you. Even the quiet countries, though they might not admit it, wanted to get to know you a little better. Some a bit more differently than others.
Your eyes sweep the room, looking at each individual country to see it one stood out from the rest. Each pair of eyes held a different story than the previous one. Some held determination, others held a deep emotion. There were a couple eyes that held a bit of longing in them, but you didn’t want to know what kind of longing it was.
One pair of green eyes seemed to draw your attention away from the rest of the group. The owner of those eyes shifted a bit uncomfortably as your lingered on him. Lithuania sat next to his Baltic friends, but instead of seeming calm he seemed nervous and afraid. His eyes held fear, curiosity, and a tiny bit of eagerness.
The man wore his green military uniform. It was just a normal uniform, but it seemed like all the countries were wearing their military gear. It made you wonder if you had interrupted a war meeting of some sort.
And that thought jinxed you.
“The little sunflower will be coming with me,” a deep voice sounded from just next to the Baltics.
Your eyes went wide as you realize whose voice it belonged to. The fact that the person didn’t put their normal ending to the sentence frightened you even more. Hesitantly looking to the source, your eyes met the closed ones of a smiling Russia.
“Russia, we agreed she vould choose someone first before ve decided,” Germany’s came out as a warning.
“Da, but this meeting was to discuss a land dispute. I take girl, and I will walk away without taking anyone else, da?”
All the countries in the room tensed at the suggestion. On one hand it was a good idea since Russia had been trying to get his sister, Ukraine, to become one with him, but on the other hand they would be basically sacrificing you to appease him for a time.
“How is that even a suggestion? She’s not a country, Russia. She’s a normal human,” England attempted to persuade.
“Da, but I am in need of more servants around my home. She will do for now until I need another.”
Your heart dropped as Russia stood from his seat. Not a single country tried to stop him as he made his way around the table to get you. Were they so quick to use you to solve their problems? You knew Russia wasn’t one to be messed with or tested, but that didn’t mean he should be left alone to do what he wanted.
A hand grabs your arm a bit too roughly, making you wince at the pressure of their grip. England’s face had contorted to frown of disapproval as did many of the other countries. One in particular was Lithuania’s expression. He looked at you helplessly as Russia dragged you out of the room towards the entrance, not looking back at the shocked countries. You didn’t fight him though you wished you would have put up some sort of fight.
Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia jogged behind you trying to catch up to Russia’s quick strides. If Russia was leaving the conference, then so were they. They did live under one roof after all.
“R-Russia, my arms hurts. Could you please let go?” you plead to him in hopes he would at least loosen his grip.
“If I do that then you will run away,” was his only reply as he pulled you through the double doors.
A blast of freezing air hit your face. Tiny pin needles sweep across any exposed skin as snowflakes fell from the dark, cloudy sky. To say it was cold was an understatement. It was downright in the singles digits if not lower. It was even worse for you because of the fact that you were in pajamas, and these did nothing to protect you from the elements.
Without missing a beat Russia pulled you through the snow covered parking lot to a large van. It must have been what they drove to get to the meeting. However, just that short walk to the van left your feet almost entirely numb along with the rest of your body. Your teeth chattered endlessly as Russia opened the door to the side of the van and half pushed you in the car. He didn’t close the door and went to get in the passenger door, leaving you to sit there frozen.
Estonia quickly got in the driver’s seat as Latvia and Lithuania tried to help you move into the very back seat. Lithuania literally had to pick you up and transfer you to the back seat He stuttered out apologies, but you could do nothing to reply.
“Here she can use this,” Latvia said as he handed his jacket to Lithuania.
“T-Thanks, Latvia,” he replied as he quickly took it.
You felt him wrap the jacket around your legs and feet. It felt warmer thankfully, but the numb sensation refused to leave you. Seeing your continued discomfort, Lithuania took off his own jacket and gently wrapped it around your shaking form. Letting out a relieved sigh you snuggled up into, relishing the instant warmth it provided.
Lithuania watched you with sorrowful eyes. You had now been pulled into a life of servitude by Russia. Your life was being turned upside down, and yet you somehow still held a peaceful expression on your face as you began to warm up. He knew the future that awaited you wouldn’t be the brightest, but at least he could be there to shoulder some of the pain and burdens. He had done it before, and he was more than willing to do it again.
Unfortunately, the drive from the conference building wasn’t long, and soon the car was pulling into the driveway. Russia liked having the meetings close to home in hopes a country would become one with him. This was actually supposed to happen until you had suddenly come into the picture. Why he wanted a normal human and not a country was a strange thing indeed.
“Bring the sunflower into house, da?” came Russia’s voice from the front of the car.
No one dare disobey him as everyone began to hustle out of the car. Lithuania had to maneuver you out of the car to Estonia’s waiting arms without waking you. You’d need all the rest you could get before you started your new job. Thankfully you were too tired to really care what was going on around and just stayed in peaceful slumber.
“I got her Lithuania,” Estonia told him.
“A-Are you sure?”
“I wouldn’t still be holding her if I wasn’t sure.”
Lithuania nodded and proceeded to get himself out of the car. Latvia had run ahead to let Russia into the house and get the guestroom ready. As soon as Lithuania had gotten out of the car Estonia handed you back to him. He then began taking care of the car while Lithuania rushed you into the home. You had begun to shiver again as soon as you got outside the car and he wanted nothing more than to get you into the warm house. He kept you held tight against himself as he bolted through the door. At one point he could have sworn you have snuggled into him.
Russia was no-where in sight as he quickly walked through the large mansion towards the guest quarters. It would be where you slept until another, more permanent room could be prepared for you. He hoped you wouldn’t get too used to the comfortable beds and decorations because the next room you got would be a little similar to his and the other Baltic’s. The beds were a little rough and they weren’t allowed much freedom which the decorations. Russia was in charge of that.
Just as the room came into view Latvia stepped out of it. He was always quick to clean up after all the messes. Latvia quickly spotted Lithuania and motioned him over.
“Ah! Lithuania! Everything is set up and ready for her. I made sure to sneak some of Mr. Russia’s warmer blankets into the room for her since she looked so cold,” he said with a smile.
“Latvia, Russia isn’t going to be pleased when he finds those blankets missing. Remember what happened the last time? He wouldn’t stop stretching you for 2 hours.”
“It’s alright! As long as she is alright. Besides, with all the stretching I might finally be able to become taller than him and get him back for it,” again he gave a smile.
Somehow Russia never really intimidated Latvia, and in turn Latvia did many things that would upset Russia. It was a constant pattern that Lithuania didn’t understand.
“Alright, thank you Latvia. I’ll put her to bed now. I’ll meet you and Estonia in our room soon,” Lithuania thanks him with a small smile.
“Okay!”
With that Latvia began to half jog to the shared rooms of the Baltics. Lithuania watched him go for only a moment before proceeding in to the room. It was decorated with many relics of Russian history and the comforter had the Russian flag on it. That flag was just another reminder that you no longer belonged to yourself, and now your life belonged to Russia.
Very carefully he set you down into the bed. Thankfully Latvia had already pulled the sheets back so it wasn’t too difficult. He tucked in the sheets around you and made sure you were all snuggled up.
------Lithuania’s POV-------
She seemed a lot more at ease and warm now. I’ll have to thank Latvia later for getting those extra blankets. The Russian winter was always brutal to those who were not already used to it. Especially you since you had next to nothing to protect yourself from its frigid grasp.
I continued to watch (Name) as her breathing slowed. She had a precious life and now that life was gone. Wasn’t the one thing countries were supposed to care for the most was the people? If so, then why would master Russia do something as drastic as this… Did he want to prove a point? Did he want to acquire something that would get the other countries to give in to him and join him in return for your safety?
“I don’t know,” was all I could mutter.
I tucked a stray hair out of her face before making my way out of the room. Clicking off the lights I gently closed the door. I was about to rejoin Latvia and Estonia when I heard the one voice that frightened any country.
“Lithuania,” came Russia’s ‘sincere’ voice.
Whipping around I turn to see Russia with his all too familiar smile. From knowing him for so long I knew his smile was never as genuine as it appeared to be. The only time it ever was truly genuine was when he was around his sister Ukraine.
“Is the sunflower taken care of?”
“Y-Yes, m-master Russia.”
“She is nice and warm, da?”
My heart dropped. He had already discovered the missing blankets. My only thought was that Latvia had actually stolen them from his room and not one of the closets. He was always getting himself into trouble, but like always I would make sure he was alright.
“Y-Yes, sir.”
“Good. Now come with me. We need to discuss her schedule for tomorrow.”
With that he began to walk away from without making sure I was following. He didn’t have to. The consequences were too high not to follow him. I let my head drop as I follow after him. All I could do now was make sure everyone else would be alright.
Especially her.
(Name) was a precious person who needed to be protected. I vowed then and there I would be her silent protector, and somehow get her back home. No matter what obstacles get in my way.
-----------(Time Skip 2 years)-----------
Time had seemed to pass at its own leisure. The days that went by were uneventful to say the least. Each day was filled with routine, chores, and some punishment. Ivan had begun to treat you similarly to the Baltics, so each time you messed up a chore you’d receive some sort of punishment. Nothing too horrible of course, since he knew very well you were just a normal human and not a country. It mostly involved stretching and pinching. Kind of like what he does to Latvia.
The cold environment of Russia wasn’t all too appealing to you either. You loved the warmer seasons of summer and fall. The freezing temperatures outside the mansion were harsh. You literally had to bundle up in about 3-4 layers of jackets and sweaters to keep the cold from biting your skin. It didn’t get any better after 2 years either.
Days were spent cleaning around the house, washing clothes, and talking to the only friends you had: the Baltics. Eduard liked to teach you about electronics, and you just liked watching him code in general. Ravis seemed to always get into trouble with Ivan so you made sure he didn’t do anything to upset him.
And then there was Toris. You both got along so well that you were almost inseparable. He always looked out for you and was the first to help you get used to the busy schedule around the mansion. Every time you had a question or you got hurt from doing one of the chores he was always there. He also liked to carry around his own personal first aid kit. It was a good idea, but sometimes you thought he was a paranoid that something could go wrong.
Thankfully all the household was in America for a party Alfred decided to suddenly throw. He told everyone to be there or you would all be losers. It was like music to your ears when Ivan announced the trip and you honestly couldn’t wait to get out of the winter cold.
But oh how karma liked to tease you.
The moment the airport doors opened you were hit with a blast of hot, humid air. The temperature was easily almost 100 and the humidity made it even worse. Within seconds you were all a sweating mess. Ivan, who was still wearing his normal attire, didn’t seem like it affected him one bit!
Once you had gotten to the party, Alfred immediately announced that it was time to get into the pool. All the countries cheered and literally sprinted to the cool pool. You would have joined them if not for the little dilemma you now faced.
“Come on, Toris! Everyone will be getting out of the pool by the time we get down there,” you call through the door.
No reply.
Toris had locked himself in his room ever since Alfred had declared it was time to start the pool party. All the other countries were more than eager to go jump into the nice cool water to escape the heat, but Toris seemed to have to opposite idea. As the other countries rushed outside, he immediately went upstairs and locked himself away. You, being his close friend, refused to allow him to miss out on the rare chance to have some fun.
“Toris, please, if you aren’t going to go down and swim then I’m not going to go swim.”
As much as you hated to miss out on the fun you would rather know that he was alright. He wasn’t telling you something, and you had a feeling it was something important.
“P-Please go have fun, (Name). I-I’m alright. H-Honest,” came his muffled voice from behind the door.
From the volume of his voice you could tell he was right behind the door. What caught your attention more was the fact that he had stuttered. He never stuttered when he talked to you anymore.
“No, you’re not fine Toris. You just stuttered. You haven’t stuttered when you’ve talked to me since last year.”
Again, no reply.
Now you were just getting annoyed.
“Are you secretly unable to swim or something?”
You could have sworn you heard a soft, dry laugh from behind the door. Okay, that was it.
“Toris….if you don’t open this door in the next 10 seconds I’m going to forcefully open it,” you threaten him in a low voice.
It was again silent as you began to count down from 10 in your head. Each second felt like eternity as you got closer and closer to zero. The only noises that could be heard were from outside. The splashing of water along with all the laughing, screaming, and shouting echoed through the walls into the house. It made you very jealous and yet annoyed at the same time.
At the last possible moment, just before you were about to get to zero, you hear the lock on the door being undone and the door opening a crack. Takign this as a sign that he’d finally given in, you take a step through the door. You were about ready to let him have it but you quickly hold your tongue as you see him. He was standing near the window watching everyone as they frollicked in the water below. There was something in his eyes you couldn’t quite place.
“Toris? Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine.”
“No you’re not. You’re looking longingly out the window, yet you don’t want to go swimming with everyone. What’s wrong?”
“…”
You could tell he was debating with himself by the conflicted look on his face. Maybe you were being a little too pushy? He had every right to keep whatever was bothering him a secret.
“Look, if you don’t want to talk about it, that’s fine. I’m sorry for prying. I’m gonna go join the others. Just come down when you feel like it alright?”
With that you began to turn around to leave the room. However, just before you reach the doorway, a hand catches yours to stop you. You whip around to see Toris with a frantic look on his face, but it quickly changes to shock as he realizes what he’s done. He lets go of your hand and holds his up in surrender.
“I-I’m sorry! I-It’s just… I want to tell you, but I think you’ll get mad at me,” he says as he faces away from you.
“Toris, why would I get mad at you?”
He stays silent, but only for a moment before he reaches down to pull up his shirt. Your face immediately goes red and you avert your eyes from his form. You had a crush on him yes, but this sudden action was not foreseen. The sound of cloth hitting the floor was the first thing you heard before he spoke again.
“Please look. This is why I don’t wish to swim with everyone.”
You bring your eyes back to his form
As he turned his back to you, you were brought to the sight that was from a horror show. Scars lined his back; some small, many large. They ran from the tip of his shoulders blades to below the hem of his swim shorts. Most of them were old, but you could tell there were a few that were more recent. The newer scars stood out red and angry, and the skin around them was irritated. It was like he’d been through a warzone a dozen times.
“Toris?.... Where did you get all those?” your voice came out as a whisper.
His back still faced you as he shrugged a little, “Ivan isn’t the most gentle of people.”
That’s all it took for tears to prick your eyes. You slowly walk forward and reach out your hand towards his back. As gentle and soft as a feather, you lightly touch one of the scars. Toris gasps a little at your touch and you feel his body flinch and tense underneath your fingertips. To think that someone as kind and compassionate as Toris would be enduring this burden, it wasn’t plausible.
Then it dawned on you.
All those times when Russia was about to beat you or punish you for doing something that he didn’t like, and somehow he would just walk away without finishing the job. Now it all made sense. Toris had been taking the punishments for you. And from how many there were you could only imagine that you weren’t the only one he was protecting. Being a country, he must have been living with these scars for decades, maybe even centuries.
“Why…” you whisper lowly.
“Hmm?”
“Why did you do this to yourself?”
“I did it willingly.”
“But, why?! Tell me why you would endure not just my punishment but everyone elses!?”
“Because I care about them…and I care about you, too,” he speaks honestly.
He turns around to face you. He has his small smile on his face, but his eyes held sorrow and compassion. Acting so feeble and weak, yet in truth he was the strongest out of all of you. He took the hits for everyone so that you all could live happy and without worry.
You didn’t realize when the tears had overflown, but the next moment you could feel a soft hand cup your cheek to wipe away the tears.
“A-Ah! P-Please don’t cry, (Name)!” He cried out.
That voice though, that was the voice of the Toris you knew. Kind and caring, and always worrying about everyone while fretting over the smallest things. He always put others before himself, and you partially disliked that part about him. But that’s what made Toris, Toris.
Without giving a warning you swap his arm, earning a small squeak in response.
“You dummy! Why did you just decide to shoulder all this yourself? Aren’t we all your friends?!” you shout at him as you began to try to smack him again.
“Of course you are all my friends! That’s why I had to do it. I couldn’t bare to see the people I care about get hurt this way!”
You had ceased trying to smack and let the tears continually flow down your cheeks. No more. This couldn’t go on anymore. There had to be something you could do to put a stop to Russia’s rule.
“No more,” you whimper. “I can’t stand to see this happen to you again.”
“You won’t have to,” he whispers in response.
“What?”
You look up at him only to see that he was now holding something in his hand. It looked like some old era parchment, but you seemed to already know what it was. You looked between Toris and the parchment several times before taking it from him. Unrolling it, you found the spell to send you home.
“This is the reason I got some new scars,” Toris explains.
“You didn’t have to do this,” you tell him as you hold the spell tightly.
“Yes, I did. You don’t belong here. You had a life before this and it was probably much better than servitude. As much as I want you to stay…you’ll be happier back home.”
“Don’t go and decide what will make me happy, Toris. Because even after I go home I won’t be happy at all.”
“Why not?”
“Because you won’t be there,” you whisper so lowly Toris thought you had said something else.
“W-What did you say?”
“I said, I won’t be happy unless you are there with me!”
With that built up courage you threw your arms around his waist and clutched at his back. You didn’t care if his shirt was gone, but you made sure that while your hold was tight, you weren’t putting any uncomfortable pressure on his back. He seemed lost for words as his arms froze in midair. Although, after a few moments he finally placed them around you to hold you by the small of back.
“Your words are too kind, (Name). But…I can’t just leave Raivis and Eduard behind, and I can’t bear the thought of you staying here.”
“Then I’ll stay,” you say with determination. “Toris…I…I lo-”
You were cut off by soft lips gently meeting yours. Your eyes went wide and your arms loosened their grip. His kiss was neither rough or demanding, but more blissful and hesitant. It was easy to tell that he worried about this since it was so sudden, but you return the soft kiss.
“As do I, (Name), but I want you to be safe. I love you so much that I can’t bear to see Ivan do something to you.”
“Then you’ll be there to protect me, right?” you give him a small smile.
He looks at you with hesitance before giving in and nodding.
“I swear I will get stronger to protect you. I will not let anything come between us.”
“I’m going to hold you to that promise. Now, let’s go have some fun in the pool. You can wear your shirt if you aren’t comfortable without it alright?”
He smiles and nods, putting his shirt back on before leading you both down to join the other countries. Unfortunately, your absence didn’t go unnoticed, and it didn’t help when Raivis gleefully announced that Toris had finally confessed to you. You both became a blushing mess, but you couldn’t help but smile. From the corner of your eye you could see Ivan with Ukraine. He was smiling at the two of you. It wasn’t a fake smile either. It was genuine.
The spell was left in the room, all but forgotten as you and Toris moved forward. The more time he spent with you after that the more he forgot about the scars that once dominated his mind. Now his thoughts focused to you, and you made sure those scars remained forgotten.
The End~
