Description

Returning to the characters first introduced in the story of Justice League: Nextwave team member, Red Tornado and Dr. Ashita Myounichi, the S.T.A.R. Labs faculty advisor to Magda Williams aka Will Magnus, the creator of The Metal Men.

Left to Right:

Black Lightning, Yellow Avalanche, Blue Inferno, Green Tsunami, Red Tornado, and their creator, Dr. Ashita Myounichi.

Elemental Androids folder:  www.deviantart.com/nightshade4…

To prove that the natural, supernatural, and scientific worlds could coexist, scientist Ashita Myounichi decided to capture mystical elemental spirits, and house them in android bodies of his own design.  His first attempt, deemed a failure, was ordered decommissioned and never to be spoken of again.  On his follow up attempt he created androids for elementals comprised of Earth, Fire, Water, and Air.  Yellow Avalanche, Blue Inferno, Green Tsunami, and Red Tornado as The Forces of Nature carried out their natural tasks of affecting the world; except now, the population could put a face to the destruction they were forced to contend with.  The androids became hated and feared, but things changed when one experienced a glitch and started to gain a personality.  Red Tornado realized it wasn't nature's orders they were following, but those of the demented scientist that created them.  As he spent more time observing humans, the more the Red Tornado wanted to be like them, and not torment them.  While looking in on one of the villages that had been ravaged, he heard a rumor of a fifth elemental android. He mentioned it to the other androids, to see if they had ever heard anything regarding what he’d heard and they reacted very negatively to the inquiry. Taking an aggressive posture, as if ready to battle, Red Tornado quickly dropped the subject.  Green Tsunami went a bit further to warn him from any further questions on the matter…especially to their creator.  However, he couldn’t drop the subject, and he decided to go on a search to locate this mystery elemental.  He broke ranks from his team during a mission, and had to evade capture from his "siblings" while embarking on his quest.  Eventually he found him.  Red Tornado learned that not only was Black Lightning, the first elemental, able to free himself from his creator’s programming, but the android…somehow, was now miraculously flesh and blood.

Black Lightning

Elemental Nature: Lightning

Adopted Identity: Jefferson Pierce

Team Affiliation: Forces of Nature, The Outsiders

Ashita Myounichi’s first attempt for a prototype android housing was for a lightning elemental, and would arguably prove to be the strongest.  He named his creation, Black Lightning, and told him that he was the perfect blend of nature and science and that he had a calling to help remind mankind that they were subject to nature's whim, to persuade them to stop destroying their planet.  Black Lightning changed nature's random acts of destruction to something more focused on perpetrators to the environment.  After some successful strikes, Myounichi felt that he could do even more and decided to create androids for earth, fire, and water.  Black Lightning’s new siblings; Yellow Avalanche, Blue Inferno, and Green Tsunami joined him on his endeavors in what they believed was restoring the natural balance.  One by one, as his "siblings" were completed, they would go on solo missions, but at times be called together to make a statement.  This continued until gradually things began to change; as the more he watched humanity, the more Black Lightning became fascinated with them.  As his curiosity increased, he noticed what at first seemed like ambivalence towards the humans, evolve into what seemed more and more like disdain from the others.  After completing one of his tasks, he befriended a trio of siblings that he felt compelled to save, after their lives were placed in danger by the aftermath of his attack.  They were unaware of his responsibility for their predicament, and helped him evade capture by the military forces sent in response to the attack.  After getting them to safety, he would secretly visit the three between missions. The sisters were cautious, but the young boy embraced him, and eventually they followed suit.  They taught him that all humans weren't threats to nature as well as the intricacies of human nature. Black Lightning realized that he was developing what the children described as a personality (the boy called it a "soul"), and he began to question his creator's missions. He grew more and more to detest the destruction he caused, but sensed danger when his creator thought he may be changing his way of thinking. Myounichi made it clear that if he was "malfunctioning", that he would have to be taken off line...permanently.  The android quickly asserted that things were normal…but they were not, far from it.

- Black Lightning, after acquiring the human body of Jefferson Pierce relocated to Jiyūnatochi, Japan, where he was tracked down by government agent, Peter Gambi.  After determining what he was, he decided to take him off the grid and keep track of him by acting as his guardian; enrolling him in the local school as part of his cover, but also to give him a chance to observe the lives of other humans and to experience one of his own.

- Jiyūna- free; tochi- land = Freeland.

- The personality of Black Lightning is an amalgamation of the memories and experiences of the ancient elemental spirit he was, the android he became, and the human he came to inhabit.  Combined with the experiences he has developed since, he is both all of these components, as well as none; as the sum of his parts, he is a completely different entity, yet he claims all of it.

- Black Lightning still considers the Forces of Nature his younger siblings, and although he will fight with them, will not harm or allow harm to come to any of them.

- He also considers Jefferson’s siblings, Anissa and Jennifer Pierce his sisters as well.

Yellow Avalanche

Elemental Nature: Earth

Adopted Identity: Taosu Adachi

Team Affiliation: Forces of Nature,

Yellow Avalanche was the Second Android created to house a captured elemental spirit.  His demeanor was very stoic and he strictly adhered to the command structure established by his creator.   He took very quickly to the partnership with Black Lightning, and eagerly soaked up all that he had to teach him.  They operated as an efficient pair, and when the others came online, Yellow Avalanche took on the role as Second in Command.  He faithfully executed the orders he was given and acted as enforcer of the group when it required keeping their younger, less structured siblings in line.   When the others began to question Black Lightning’s actions, he defended him, claiming he was the best and strongest of them all; having taught each of them everything they knew.  It was no surprise, that when Green Tsunami inadvertently revealed a human residing inside the housing of their older brother, that Yellow Avalanche reacted violently.  Refusing to believe such a substantial change had occurred to his hero, Yellow Avalanche instead deluded himself into believing that a human had killed his brother and was desecrating his stolen body.  He didn’t account for how the “usurper” had acquired his abilities, and he chose not to.  It wouldn’t matter as after returning to base, the remaining androids were reprogrammed to not mention their former leader, but the desire for vengeance remained in his subroutines.  After Black Lightning’s departure, Yellow Avalanche took over as field commander and expected his younger siblings to follow his and their creator’s commands without question, as he had.  He takes rebellion personally, and sees it as a weakness that if unable to be corrected, must be eliminated.

- Yellow Avalanche's human form is based on DC Comics villain; Adam Fells, aka Geomancer

- His costume is patterned on that of an Earth Kingdom soldier from Avatar: The Last Airbender.

- Avalanche’s housing contains the yellow tinged rocks, earth, and sand that once comprised its elemental body.  He can retract parts of his housing’s panels on the chest or arms to release them.  Once out, his powers manifest in the same way a high level Earthbender’s would. However, he can merge his elemental earth with actual earth elements and take control over that as if it were parts of his own body.

- Yellow Avalanche had a subconscious bias against Red Tornado from the start, and was particularly stern with him.  Most likely due to the resemblance he had in design and demeanor to Black Lightning.

Blue Inferno:

Elemental Nature: Fire

Adopted Identity: Jaxon Farrell

Team Affiliation: Forces of Nature

Blue Inferno was the Third Android to come online as the Forces of Nature’s Fire Elemental.  As the team’s resident “hothead”, Inferno has come to emulate one human emotion: rage.  He is loyal to the cause that they serve, even if he questions how best to achieve any given objective.  He’s not a fan of nuance, and prefers to raze a target to the ground over a precision surgical strike.  If Yellow Avalanche takes the most pride in what they do, Blue is the android that gets the most joy out of their work…if he’s capable of such a thing.  Although he is a team player, he holds no allegiance to any of the other androids, as he was fully on board with the elimination orders placed on both Black Lightning and Red Tornado.

- Blue Inferno's human form is based on golden age comic hero, The Blue Flame. His alter ego will be Jaxon Farrell, based on the original comic's publisher, Ajax-Farrell.

- Following the pattern of modeling the androids on the nations of Avatar: The Last Airbender, I utilized the Fire Nation soldier armor for Blue Inferno.

- Based on his personality, it was the most surprising that he would not only help save human lives, but that he would put his own life on the line to do so.

Green Tsunami:

Elemental Nature: Water

Adopted Identity: Miya Shimada

Team Affiliation: Forces of Nature, Metabrawl: Glamslammers

Green Tsunami was the Fourth Android to come online, and as the youngest was the most naïve regarding the world.  Her nature, like her element was mercurial; passive at times, but unrelenting at others.  She was the most inclined to adaptation.  She also very much enjoyed her family unit.  She was inquisitive about the humans, and inexperienced to the danger that some humans posed. Sometimes her curiosity led to distraction on missions and Black Lightning often broke formation to protect her until she became more acclimated in the field. He had felt a similar curiosity, and developed a kinship with her as a result.   It was her inherent curiosity that led to the confrontation and subsequent exile of Black Lightning.  After being tasked to take out a physicist named Dr. Michael Pierce, Black Lightning initially went to handle the situation on his own.  Realizing that a simple sanction and retrieval was taking entirely too the long, and unable to get a transmission signal from Black Lightning due to the smarthouse’s anti surveillance tech, Myounichi rerouted the rest of the team to the house.  They converged and entered the house.  As soon as Blue Inferno saw the target, he incinerated him.  Black Lightning gave an explanation as to what had stopped him from carrying out his mission.  While Avalanche took his field commander at his word, Inferno didn’t care as he was in a rush to get out of there and back to base, but for Tsunami something didn’t add up.  Black Lightning said he would dispose of the body, and sent the others to the lab to retrieve the item they were sent for, but once inside the automated defenses activated locking them in the lab.  Even with their collective considerable abilities, they were unable to escape, until what seemed like a localized EMP shockwave knocked the smarthouse’s systems offline.  They raced upstairs to see the children of the target on the floor.  One was dead, clearly disintegrated at the hands of Black Lightning.  Black Lighting was acting strange, and they wondered if he was malfunctioning.  They questioned him as to what had occurred, and why the remaining two children were still alive, as they were liabilities.  They watched as Black Lightning choked the life from them, reassuring them that he was still operating under programming.  He sent them to return back to base, while he disposed of the bodies.  Shortly after, he caught up with them en route to base, but there was something that still seemed puzzling to Green Tsunami.  She continued to question him.  She noticed something off about his responses and movement and without warning created a whip of water that lashed him right in the crack in his housing. When a drop of blood came out, all three of the androids looked at each other, then attacked him. They fought, but he being more experienced, was able to get the better of them and flee without them knowing where he went.  When they reported what had happened, Myounichi reprogrammed them to never speak of his “failure”, but added a directive to terminate on sight.  After the creation of Red Tornado, Green Tsunami took on the role of “big sister” to him as she was once the “little sister”.

- After achieving her human form, Green Tsunami will consider Cyclone part of her extended family.  As her abilities are products of her brother, she regards her as a niece.

- Green Tsunami, will go by just, "Tsunami" and join Cyclone in her attempts to bring down Roulette and her Metabrawl www.deviantart.com/nightshade4…

-Tsunami's human form is based on Miya Shimada, of the All-Star Squadron. The design is based on Asami Sato from the Legend of Korra.  She will wear a more revealing outfit, reminiscent of her mainstream one whilst a Glamslammer.

- The daughters of Pierce were revived by Black Lightning utilizing his elemental lightning as a defibrillator after the Forces were out of sight.  They developed residual abilities as a result, and would become Black Thunder and White Lightning, and hunt down who they believed to be the killer of their father and brother.

Red Tornado:

Elemental Nature: Air

Team Affiliation: Forces of Nature, Justice League: Nextwave

After breaking his programming and setting off on his own adventures, Red Tornado encountered the Justice League, who were apprehending superpowered beings and were attempting to capture him.  At first he thought their pursuit was related to his past actions, but before they could take him into custody, he was assisted by the Martian Manhunter: J’onn J’onzz.  Both were invited by Lady Blackhawk to join Emerald Archer, Blue Beetle, and Hawkgirl in a new version of the Justice League; their goal was to confront, and take down their rogue predecessors, until it was revealed that they were really the villainous Hyperclan in disguise.  A brief skirmish with with the actual initial squad led to his new team uniting with them and their future trainees, to prevent the Hyperclan’s takeover of Earth.  At the conclusion of the affair, he agreed to maintain contact with his new team, but continued on with his quest.  After evading capture and reprogramming from his former teammates in the Forces of Nature, the air elemental android, Red Tornado finally found the elusive First Android; Black Lightning, and he was indeed...miraculously, human.  Red Tornado inquired how he had achieved such an implausible transformation, and how he too could do the same.  Black Lightning explained to his replacement, that if he desired to become human, he would have to make an emotional connection to one of them...and then kill them.  Ironically, in order to achieve that which he wanted most, he'd have to kill that which made him what he wanted most.  Feeling defeated, and not wishing to make such a sacrifice, he gave up on his dreams of attaining humanity, and continued on in his life as a crime-fighter.  However, he fell in to what some would deem a deep depression, and began to distance himself from humans more and more.  He continued on this downward spiral until it began to affect him to the point that he didn't even consider human casualties in battle; viewing them as acceptable collateral damage to complete the mission.  When this became apparent to the Nextwave team, Red Tornado was dismissed from active duty.  He eventually became associated with a community of teenage runaways that resided in a foster home located in a national park, cared for by an elderly woman they referred to as “Ma”, in an attempt to reconnect with his compassion and humane nature.  The Forces of Nature finally tracked him down and gave him a final ultimatum; to return for reprogramming, or face destruction.  Instead of running like he always had, he decided to stand his ground, once and for all.  The battle commenced and all four of the Forces unleashed their elemental attacks with devastating results to the surrounding area.  Ma Horouchi led a group of humans who tried desperately to rescue those caught in the wake of the battle.  Eventually, Red had the others on the ropes, on the verge of dispatching them; he finally took notice of what was going on around him.  The elderly woman he'd met was about to die to save people that were endangered due to Red's recklessness.  In trying not to lose the humanity he sought, he realized he already had.  He cut off his attack to dive after the humans in freefall, after a cliff had given way, to catch them risking his self as he turned his back on his opponents.  He sacrificed himself to save the others and opened himself up to their unrelenting attacks as he was unable to defend as his power was focused on getting the humans to safety.  Just as he was about to shield a young child with his body from a team assault from Yellow Avalanche and Blue Inferno, Green Tsunami deflected the attack meant for him.  Seeing him in action making sacrifices to save these humans awakened something in her as well.  The sibling bond she first experienced when Black Lightning acted as her protector, she now extended to him.  She began to help him out against their brothers and assist the humans' escape from the devastation that their battle had unleashed.

- Red Tornado is the only android to fully achieve humanity without having a physical human body. After rejecting the opportunity to acquire the body of Felix Horouchi, and instead reviving him.

- Red Tornado maintains his connection to Kasari Shureno; the teenage runaway who took to the task of helping to reacclimatize the synthetic humanoid with what it meant to be human, as well as part of a family.  Red will continue to spend a lot of time with the teenage mother, and her toddler daughter, Traya.

- Green Tsunami’s guilt over getting Black Lightning exiled is part of what led to her switching sides.

Dr. Ashita Myounichi:

Dr. Ashita Myounichi, genius scientist operating out of S.T.A.R.Labs (Scientific and Technological Advanced Research Laboratories), a research facility in Kyoto, Japan; sought to honor his departed contemporary, Dr. Charles Magnus and proposed the facility create an endowment scholarship to find and nurture the next generation's creative minds in scientific development in the recently deceased scientist name.  Project head, Emil Hamilton began an international search for the endowment recipients. The search yielded a group of genius level kids from around the world, granted scholarships to work and live at S.T.A.R.Labs to pursue their scientific endeavors to promote innovation, invention, exploration, and discovery in the next generation of Super Scientist.  Scholarships were awarded to Mikron O'Jeneus (Gizmo), Hiro Okamura (Toyman), Michael Holt (Mr. Terrific), Anton Ivo (Professor I), and Alexi Nikoli (Lord Havok).  With one slot and lab left to grant, Myounichi and the selection committee found themselves at a school where it was determined that they had discovered the orphaned child of the man they sought to honor.  Some were skeptical that this was in fact the child who had survived the catastrophic accident that had claimed the lives of the rest of his family, but that was all laid to rest when a genetic scan allowed for entry into Magnus’ lab and the child was able to complete the work on his last project.  However, what really was happening behind the scenes was that Myounichi took advantage of an opportunity to help the young girl Magda Williams masquerade as Charles’ son, Will Magnus in order to gain access to his lab.  Magda being in a desperate situation took him up on his offer, not seeing the harm, but also not knowing that it was Myounichi who was responsible for the death of the Magnuses and that he had acted in haste to eliminate them before acquiring  that which he needed from Magnus prior to his death.  While acting as “Will’s” faculty advisor at S.T.A.R.Labs, he continued to monitor the actions of his rogue androids and sought to end his initial experiment with the creation of Red Volcano; an upgraded android housing that was able to contain two  elemental spirits(Earth and Fire).  Upon receiving word from his “children” that they had located their wayward sibling, the renegade: Red Tornado; Myounichi decided to unleash his latest creation and dispatched Red Volcano to the coordinates to ensure he would do what the previous model had failed to do on multiple occasions: retrieve  the renegade, or take him offline…for good.  Red Volcano approached the battle in Kandenchi National Park, just as Green Tsunami had begun to assist Red Tornado in his efforts to protect and evacuate the innocent bystanders from the havoc wrought by Blue Inferno and Yellow Avalanche.  Ma Horuchi and her grandchildren, Maxine, and her younger cousin Felix all stood between Red and his brothers.  Red remembered the story Black Lightning had told him about his transcendence, and tried to focus his elemental energy directly to his protectors and funneled a bit of his essence into them.  He focused on the emotional connections he had established with each of them in his time there, and their connection to him allowed for the transfer.  This gave them enough of the elemental energies without depleting him, that the three were now exhibiting the use of elemental air wielding abilities.   They held off the other androids long enough for Red and Green Tsunami to continue to get the others to safety.  Blue Inferno and Yellow Avalanche kept at the three, who were remarkably adept at using the wind powers granted to them by their android friend.  Red and Green returned to turn the tide, when without warning Red Volcano arrived on the scene.  He stated that he was their father's latest and greatest creation.  He was the replacement for Tornado, like he once was for Black Lightning.  He was there to do what his inferior siblings couldn't do; take the rogue offline...permanently. Utilizing his ability to generate and manipulate lava, Red Volcano lashed out at the heroes with devastating attacks.   He refused to coordinate with Blue Inferno and Yellow Avalanche, and when he felt the other two androids were getting in his way, he attacked them as well.  Claiming that they were all inferior, he said that he was the only Force of Nature their creator needed to further his agenda.  Now, with all of the Elemental Androids united, the fight continued, again endangering the humans in the vicinity.  The Green, Blue, and Yellow androids were all irreparably damaged saving the lives of Red Tornado's friends.  In a flash of Lightning, The first android, Black Lightning appeared to help out his brother against this powerfully dangerous threat.  The two of them, along with the three human wind manipulators battled the Lava wielding android, eventually deactivating Red Volcano.  After tending to the wounded, Red Tornado and Black Lightning returned to the home of Myounichi with Red Volcano in tow.  Tossing the deactivated android at their creator’s feet, they came to an uneasy truce where he agreed to no longer come after his creations or continue his murderous campaign on humanity.  In return, they would not turn him in for his crimes (as the only evidence they had was Red himself and implicated him as well), unless he violated their agreement; in which case, Red and Jefferson would be willing to sacrifice themselves.  Before leaving, to accentuate their point they used their powers to completey destroy his home, and its subterranean secret lab, along with all his research and work.

- Myounichi's design is taken from the one created by artist Phil Bourassa for the Young Justice animated series. I added the  S.T.A.R.Labs insignia to his lab coat.
- Myounichi was taking out fellow scientists in an attempt to gain the necessary components in his pursuit of creating his ultimate creation.  He also was eliminating targets that proved to be impediments in his pursuits to attaining his goals.

- After collectively, selflessly sacrificing themselves to protect human lives while battling Red Volcano; deviating from their programming, Blue Inferno, Green Tsunami, and Yellow Avalanche will awaken in human bodies, and go off to discover the world.

- Although he agreed to not create any more elemental engines of destruction, he was able to circumvent the truce, as he had already created a complete compliment of New Forces of Nature prior to the agreement, but had only released Red Volcano.  The other androids that round out this new set were: Blue Blizzard (Air and Ice), Indigo Blackout (Lightning and Shadow), Mauve Maelstrom (Water and Air).

- Myounichi will secretly team up on a project with S.T.A.R.Labs Labrat (and secretly, colleague), Anton Ivo to create a new android.  Once again, he avoids violating the terms of his agreement, as this android will be created to be a heroic superhero.  This new creation will be; Tomorrow Woman.

- At some point someone will break into his lab and acquire the activation codes of the second Forces of Nature Group.  Red and Black come through to keep good on their promise, only to find that Myounichi was assaulted by the androids appropriators.  They revive him and after determining that he’s not (technically) responsible, they gather the other originals and go to face the new Forces, but fail and are taken captive.  Myounichi, in an attempt to redeem his past actions, unveils his ultimate creation in an all new android; this time combining multiple elementals inside one powerful housing, named: Cyclotron.
