First of all to get the nice grunge texture for the brush U gonna click TEXTURE position at the brush panel (F5 for Photoshop)
There U should choose "granite" texture among preview samples, choose blending mode as "Multiply" | Depth to 100% | Contrast 21.
Btw if U don't mind I can record a short video about this brush options and send U vis private msg. How about that?

you're so sweet. i just don't think it's the settings. i think i put in the settings right. but i've never been able to make a textured round brush. its opaque every time. i've tried off and on over the years but the texture never shows up. ive tried every blending mode and all sorts of depths and it does not show
i'm starting to think its something to do with my computer because texture shows up for me only when i download textured brushes. if i want a textured round brush i usually have to use the dual brush setting to add texture.

Hmm... That's really strange and I think You're right it's rather your computer or your program make some mistakes.
I would like to ask what graphic tablet do U use? And have U ever tried using the same brush option bit for your computer mouse?

right now i have a huion inspiroy
but i did get texture last night. it doesnt look like in your tutorial, but it showed up when i hit 'invert' and used a darker texture and raised the scale up quite high
