I remember my childhood being greatThere were a lot of memories that I love and hate
My favorite memory was when I was ten
My friends and I didn't have our powers back then
We were sitting on top of a hill under our favorite sycamore tree
And we were feeling with so much glee
It was the six of us under that tree and on that hill
Being on that spot gave us a thrill
We climbed on that tree with ease
As we felt that beautiful summer breeze
We sat surrounding that tree with such Zen
And we didn't leave because we didn't know when
We were safe and we were always the same
For that great tree is what we claim
Years past and we still love that tree but we never went back
We didn't know why maybe it the time we lack
When I heard that the tree was going to be cut down
I had tears, a broken heart, and a frown
On the night before its demise
I went back there of one last time
I thought I was first to come but my friends were there
We sat under the tree to reminisce the times we share
We laughed and cried at our favorite memories we treasure
They were something that cannot be measure
We took a picture so we could remember
And slept underneath that tree in that cold night of September
I have two pictures with me so those memories will play
One with us as kids and one with us eighteen year olds on its last day
Even though some of our memories are great and rotten
Those memories with that tree will never be forgotten

I think this would work really well inside of your story, but as a stand alone, it's not worth mentioning the kids have powers. You did built a really nice scene here though, that I really appreciated.
