Overall
Vision
Originality
Technique
Impact
This tutorial has proven to me helpful,in ways discussed bellow.
Vision: The artist/tutor covers a wide range of possible ways to shoot a picture, emphasising in the emotions a figure bears.
Originality: I have to admit there are many tutorials covering the specific subject, but none is so invetive as this one.Techniques such as the tinfoil in the background allow you to relive historic anime scenes and capture stunning pictures.
Technique: The tutor displays the examples with grace and crystall clear photos, providing the reader with the needed guidlines.
Impact: Right after reading this tutorial I went forth and put it in use. It helped me in many ways in an upcoming project I am currently focused.
Overall: An exquisite tutorial, highly recommended for many photoshooting techniques.

Hi I would like to ask, uhm... since I'm new to photography
For this picture
[link]
along with the sample you have in your tutorial for Light-under, did you have any additional light like front light or the room light and then did you use flash? Or was that only lit using lamp and no flash?

nikicorny In reply to srsn [2013-05-23 11:00:14 +0000 UTC]
I was only using the lamp on the side I wanted, with no additional light

no I rarely use flash in my photograph because they make the light looks unnatural

Would the DIY studio apply for a compact digicam? I use a Sony Cybershot DSC W-55 ([link] , there's no manual functionality so I was wondering if Bokeh can be achieved though I've seen some pics with Bokeh using that cam but I'm not sure how they do it... any idea or tips? like use a magnifying glass or whatnot?

Umm I never use a compact, so I don't really know
You need camera with aperture settings to get bokeh though

The effects in this tutorial can be achieved if you use a SLR or a DSLR type camera taking advantage of the focus effect with a medium range or a macro lens. It is a bit tricky to simulate using a regular Point and Shoot camera because this type of camera also captures all the details of the background (no blurry focus effect). It's possible to use a PS camera, but you will have to edit your photo in Photoshop or other image editor to get the effects shown in this tutorial.

you use a 50mm or a 2oomm for the bokeh effect?

I don't own a system camera anymore but these tutorials are really helpful even without it
After all, I can show these to my friends who do make little photoshoots for their figures and dolls
Wonderful job!

Alright another good, one.
I like the examples you gave, many i have tried and are tested appoved.
On this lighting is very importiant to play with and know, i suggest some lighting books for Stagecraft and photographing to help with this (for beggginers to semi-pros).
And the color changeing is very good, if you can get/order theactrcal gels (Rosco is one brand name) thier ment for high heat and have rich colors thats last many hours, days, weeks, months, years of shoting. Possible ask around a stage theatre or a production supply shop/Rental house for stage gear about getting some spare or old used from a gig they just did.
Also this had a great background idea with the tin foil, a great effect with a out of foucs look, also fabrics can add to your backgrounds, Velvet, Crushed Velvet, shiny club wear type fabrics and so on can add to the lighting texture and effect.
Keep up the great work and even i learned something from this so every one should have a tip or two from these they learn too.
