Description
Commissioned spaceship design. The IRIS is one of several spaceships that have been modified to accommodate both the aliens and humans in a joint effort to create unity and stability between both races.Β This ship transports both alien creatures and cargo.
I have one more concept art piece for this with a 3/4 back view and some sketches. Do keep an eye out for that if you like this one, I will be posting it in the coming days.
Hope you like it!

Hi Nikolay, could you please elaborate on the background? Like, why you can't put humans and aliens in the same ship unlike it's a design mix, what are these aliens, in this background there seems to be only one alien species, and so on π The reasons behind such a design mix are surely very interesting!Β

Awesome. I love the skeletal look of it; from the thumbnail, it looks like the skeleton of a whale. By the look of the design, I'd assume that there was some biological incompatibility between the humans and the aliensβsay, different atmosphere requirements, each toxic to the other.
My one complaint is that the background makes it hard to see the labels and the human scale reference figure.I think this would look just as good with a simpler background.Β
Also: I find it frustrating at times how human spaceships are so often depicted as being blocky or rectangular. Just a random thought.

Thanks! Yup, the idea here was to have contrast between the blocky shapes of the human part and the more organic flowy forms of the alien part.

Simple in retrospective, but brilliant idea! I like it. Although it says that it is joint construction, it looks more like humans found a dead carcass of some spaceborn creature and, uh, privatized it.

Interesting concept, but I think the only reason why humans shoud allow alien sentient species to fly inside their ship is the transport of captives for science purpose. Humans are highly agressive species and have racism just written in genes. Whats more it is extremely unlikely for aliens to look similar to us. In almost every movie where aliens appear, humanoid aliens are good, and non humanoid are bad. When we will find aliens what are non humanoids (and probably all are non humanoids), we would see them as "bad" and we would hate them at first sight. It is just our way of thinking.
I think any alignment with alien species woud be very unlikely and could happen only if there would be third species what would threaten us very seriously.

Do you would prefer to kill another being, if you knew that it is sentient, or you would prefer to communicate with it and find common grounds? Well, or simply evade it at very least? I thought so. Enough of this BS of "humans exterminate everything they find because yes, we are such assholes"
>In almost every movie where aliens appear, humanoid aliens are good, and non humanoid are bad.
A. audience can feel more sympathy towards human-like characters.
B. I know of almost no agressive extraterrestrials that are actually aliens in the media. Most of them are just monsters that came on spaeships.

Just look what happens in ISIS, in Ukraine, in North Korea... We are the species who just like violence and killing.
Maybe I would prefer to communicate, but I am not the one who would be probably allowed, and not the one who commands military forces...
True, audience can feel sympathy for aliens who look like us. If aliens would look more similar to arthropods or echinoderms (or maybe something even more eerie), people would hate them just for appearance alone, even if they would be more pacific and generally better- tempered than us.

Yes, I totally agree. But at the end of the day I am just the concept artist and only manage the visual side of things I'm not directly involved in the creation of the idea in general.
Also many times in the entertainment industry "cool" goes before logic

One more question:Β Do both races have the same atmospheric requirements, or is it a dual-medium ship?

As far as I remember the briefing that I was given, the alien part of the ship creates it's own atmospheric environment.
