I really like the contrast! The strong colour balance and lighting, the composition, and the fine detail of the subject... Very powerful, and well deserving of a DD!

In case you are not, you should decide what is the case. Are you bored or disgusted? If it is the second then my photo is succesful, it made you feel something. If it is just boring, then nothing to worry, it indeed is a matter of personal taste. Not all of us are attracted to all subjects or all the ways to capture them, thank god.
I can see you are almost as old in dA as me, so you should know so far that DDs are not contests, they are just features. No one said that my work is better than yours. And noone could ever say that. It is a matter of taste again. You have your followers. The ones that agree with your personal view, that landscapes are better captured realistically. I have mine, the ill ones that like blood and women.

Keep in mind that not all people would be disgusted by your photo, some would get a hard on other would drool, yet again it's dependent on personal psyche.

I was going to make a snarky comment on your attitude but I decided to take a peek on your gallery first, to see why you were so upset and expecting to see some bad quality.
it's not what I got. you take pretty pictures, you have good subjets and they're pleasing to look at, but they're not 'artsy' there are no unexpected angles, curious reflections or anything that strikes as unusual, most of them make me go 'yeah, I have a friend who could have taken that' and I don't know any pro photographers.
I think this is a great picture, the colours are not like what we see in life and are highly contrasting, the ammount of detail we can see is just uncanny, we can diferenciate every tiny crack on the lips and every pore on the skin. the composition is interesting, with the nose askew while I imagine most would have taken it on a more symetrical way. the desaturation of the rest of the image leeds us to the blood and what is more this image lets us imagine a story or meaning behind it. is it a metaphor? is she dead? was she beaten? it makes you feel something (rage in your case badum tss).
maybe in your image with the two stags you can be like "what is it looking at?"(although it was quite obious that they were looking at the photographer) but that's it, nothing else in your gallery made me *feel* anything. they're nice wallpapers and I honestly do not mean to undermine your work, I think 'hunter's gaze' is a great photo, although it's not that thoght provoking and it's not the first picture I see of an eye reflecting the sky.
art is, you know, for the art. art is not a means, your camera, my pencil are the means, art is the goal. not gonna lie, I do enjoy the social aspect of this site but beacuse it can affect my art, it can teach me new things about it and give me ideas I would have never thought of. and if I help someone else do the same, that's a bonus.
and hey, if this site is so shit as to put this pic on such a pedestal then who gives a shit of what it has to say.
but what do I know, I'm just an admitedly mediocre illustrator.

In any case you have great imagination for thinking deep into an artwork, sure I can think of it the same way but it bores me, I've done it so many times that thinking up an imaginary story to match a piece of art is just that imaginary, we all did it as children so some of us grow out of it.
I've stayed a DA member for so long because I liked works that have a premade story with careful and obvious visual cues leading the observer through the story, works that have a lot of thought and time put into them. I'm aware that my photography doesn't have much of an artistic touch, but that's mainly because I try to show the scenes as realistically as I can, it takes a great deal of time to tune the colours of some photos to be as lifelike as possible. Too many people live in a dream world willfully ignorant of reality, which is why I make my photos the way I do.
It's almost a way to document what we have in the present before it's gone, thanks to industries, politicians, corruption, the human craving for power. Chances are that our children's children won't have the opportunity to see such a vibrant nature or ecosystem that we have.
Also the site is not shit to put that pic on a pedestal, it's the people.
