Oh, yes, I remember him from that not-so-great but intriguing Eternals miniseries from the 1980s, plus the Fantastic Four run by Walt Simonson.

You really capture the otherworldly all powerful cosmic nature of the character.

One of Jack Kirby's more personal creations playing with the theme of "Alien Gods" visiting earth millenia back and doing genetic experiments.

I like the soft textures you used on him. Makes him look as if there is a lot of activity in there, even if he could be also perceived as "unmoving", solid metal.

the Celestials are probably my favorite Jack Kirby design...not quite Aztec, nor Egyptian, nor African-but extremely high tech looking
the King must have been inspired by Lovecraft's idea of powerful aliens masquerading as gods, what with Galactus, The Watcher, Eternity, and all of the New Gods

I agree, their design is outstanding and very difficult and complex to draw!
Very interesting idea that Kirby was inspired by Lovecraft...

indirectly at least, they probably came out of the "Ancient Alien" nonfiction craze, but the Cthulhu Mythos had the idea of "aliens mistaken for gods" decades earlier.

Those two were near contemporaries, right?Although Lovecraft's work was unknown during his lifetime...

that's probably why when "Chariots of the Gods?" was published, nobody was able to say "Aha, you just totally ripped off At the Mountains of Madness!"
Then again, it could be possible Erich von Daniken had never heard of Lovecraft, and just reeeaaaaaallllllllllyyyyyyy thought the Egyptians couldn't have built the pyramids without extraterrestrial help
P.S. according to Wikipedia, the Celestials appeared in 1976,and Chariots of the Gods came out in 1968, so it's at least possible for Daniken to have influenced Kirby, even if Lovecraft wasn't involved

Yeah. I think it was even acknowledged by editorial during the Eternals' publication, that they were inspired by Chariot of the Gods.

There really are a ton of Jack Kirby-made characters that don't always gettheir proper due, due partlyto the fact that the man made so darn much!
Plus, it's tough to know all the characters out there in the Marvel Universe, as there's been so very many over the years, across so many series.
