Description
This was trickier to make than it looks. I finally updated it to load more smoothly but sacrificed some detail.ΒZoom in and stare at the center for an optical illusion after a dozen loops of the head.

I had to downloaded it to see it work properly because it just got frozen after a few loops (not the 20)... the efect you mention is indeed pretty cool (it worked pretty well like at third loop).

Same problem here, lack of know-how.
I made this file maybe a quarter as heavy as it was originally to make it work.Β
But, I'm too stubborn to make it lighter and lose some details :]

At first I laughed, because somehow the snake looks hilarious - I've always liked the Ouroboros symbol, but never seen it - well, turning by itself.

Yeah, I stopped it at 20 loops of the head (10 loops of the body). The illusion is more noticeable the longer you zone out on it, but I figured viewers would get bored looking at it.Β

-on the Mac it started glitchy, then Β ran smooth for a bit .... and Β then stopped entirely ....Β
-on my iPad it was choppy and moved but never made a full rotation.Β
However... tech... details aside I love the look of it ... it feels classic - in an illustration style that reminds me Β of everything I love about settling in to read an old book of folklore.......
I like that the head moves faster than the rest of the body (.... it does right that isn't the illusion is it?)Β 
I also like his evil little grin .... like he is just so content.... he could do this all day.Β
I will come back and see if i can catch the illusion - I can't get it to reload right now.Β

I imagined a chapter header from an ancient alchemy book coming to life on the page. I put something that looked like old paper texture for the background but just realized it's not very noticeable. Glad you noticed the different revolution speeds, thought it would help with the consumption/birth effect. The illusion happens if the animation runs smoothly. When it stops it looks like it's trying to rotate backwards.Β

OK I saw it!!! it was ruined if I looked outside the circle but when it stopped the scales gave a little quiver and if I avoided the temptation to follow it directly with my eyes it seemed to creep backwards!!Β

It's a little glitchy still, that's why I want a pause button, so it can warm up and smooth out a bit, and so you can stare at it even longer!
