Description
[Part 1 - Rook ][Part 2 - Crabapple ]
[Part 3 - Luau ]
[Part 4 - Rose Petal ]
Part 5 - Winter Willow <==== You are here
[Part 6 - The Garden ]
[Part 7 - The Fall ]
This one took some serious work. About 30 completely new OC ponies in varying degrees of distress. Oh right...
WARNING - This comic is a bit severe. Don't read it if you want to spoil your good mood
Note that I don't intend to get this grim often, just that considering Nightmare Moon collapsed large sections of the castle and who knows what else, it's likely there were some serious injuries.
A few things to note: There's a pegasus in the rafters who looks pretty upset. Her name is Whirley and she's a cameo from this comic: [link]
After reading that heartbreaker, I always wanted to give that poor little pony a hug and now I have
Also, Rose is invisible for the entire duration of this comic. At the end, the pony observing believes that Willow is running away screaming. She also makes a snide comment which is a hint to the political landscape of the time (healing ponies don't think much of "emotional healing").
Lastly, I'm enormously pleased with myself. This turned out very artsy and awesome in parts. It was mostly an accident that I thought of some of the arrangements and effects, but I think they turned out really well!
Oh... lastly, lastly: This was actually supposed to continue beyond this point, but the comic would have been too long and it already took an extraordinary amount of effort to do this much so I'm going to stop here for a bit. The next comic will have Celestia again
IMPORTANT! The thing in the tubs is soiled bandages. That's why they're cleaning them over by the river. They're not organs or some of the other things people keep asking me
ALSO: The pony with the paper in her mouth is looking for a pony with that cutie mark. Before you ask if she ever found her, here's the answer: [link]

I was just reading through comments today and realize I haven't replied to this. I know it's really late, but you're so right. Even now, I'm finding that some of my characters are writing themselves. Especially Luau. I keep trying to make her "Not Pinkie", but she keeps pulling back and acting Pinkie-like. I have NO control over that pony

The pony looking for someone was what made my heart break.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to watch some regular pony to make me smile again...

I see you used that one room you made for your first panel. X3
So this is all that the Miasma, that cursed entity, has done?.....if my FC were there, he'd help Celestia or Twilight, varying, destroy that entity. Really, he would.

If you pay attention to the discoloration on their hooves as they wash the bandages in the river, I think you'll get it

Yes, it is dark, but that's natural. Almost all TV shows, movies, comics, etc. (even those based around comedy) are going to have their dark moments, because life has it's dark moments. Have moments like this, dealing with what many would refer to as "negative emotions", just helps us appreciate the good times that much more. The last few panels made me smile that much more knowing what Winter Willow had been going through before then. Just as i connect with Rose, i connect with Willow as well. Being strong empathically means dealing with the pain and suffering of those you care for, but also means being able to share their happiness. Live for the good times, but don't forget the bad; they both make up the experiences of our life.

Empathy is indeed a gift, but also a curse. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me

Run Rose, Run!
A very emotional and grim story indeed! And to keep this short, I'll just say... Epic work.
One thing I saw tho... In the "In their frustrations" "..their despair", and "chrusing pain" parts/bubbles of the comic I noted a small cursor-thingie..? Is that an error or am I missing the greater meaning of things again?

It's more grim than I'd usually like to go, but I felt that this would have been the reality of it.

I missed the saw/knife in the first panel. Wish I'd still missed it- assumed they were setting a limb or some such... Wow.
This really is an amazing comic. Thank you.
