This is a technique to help you see the construction of art and then build on it. If you try it, you'll likely be surprised how difficult it is just to draw the simple lines and curves that build characters, but that's good practice. Don't think of using guide shapes as cheating - it's how pros do it (or so the Youtube vids would have me believe). Anyway, it works for me *shrug*
