Description
another new add to my collection!a juveline female? plains zebra (equus quagga) skull
i am not sure about the age, but as far as i could get sizes of other zebra skulls it seems to be between 9 and 12 months old.
it has not reached the adult size (only 36 cm long skull not 46 or so like adult ones)
It has the teeth 3 (only the middle ones are a bit worn down).1 (only at one side and smal so i guess it was female).3.2 (and one of the last molars is breaking through at the moment and the last one is missing)
Maybe someone could tell me more about the age with this teeth information?
It has some small damage at the bottom jaw back area maybe from the predator that killed it (the skull was found lying around)
Beside this i find the bottom jaw line below very interesting, it is not one line..
I will look closely again to it from time to time if i could find more interesting details

Would you consider letting somebody use this photo as stock?

My mum's mare had a jaw like that when she was younger (about 8yrs), it's evened out a bit now but is still bobbly...so maybe just development? She was severely undernourished when we got her (rescue), so it could be a result of that too... I don't know for sure though, I'm only guessing!

Thank you very much! I saw other skulls of juveline horses and zebras with a straight line so think it may be the undernourished thing.. But never could be sure - but thank you for giving this help and idea!

No problem at all. It's amazing what you can learn or work out from the bones of animals.

Thank you I will take better photos the next days. When i saw it i directly decide to buy it - because i do not know if i will see another one in the next years for that price.. but now i am nearly out of money again (with the glacierwear order and buying the zebra..)

I know that feeling yes, me too, i must now sell some things to be able to afford everything!!
But gosh what a beauty, i think in the past i have only seen one Zebra skull, and it was not cheap at all, quiet a few hundred euro's!And that was with a few teeth missing too!

Yes..i had to search if i could decide to sell one or two things i do not love that much maybe.. because it feels much better if you have money to buy something.
Thank you! the front teeth are partly cracked and splittet away (because it has been lying around outside for some months or longer) and this is a special one and it had cost me less than 100€
