Description
There are many, many dramatic and juicy scenes from this piece of greek mythology, but only one is really appropriate to draw in a style inspired by the Disney feature films of the 1950s.Here we have Psyche, about to open the box given to her by her jealous soon-to-be-mother-in-law Aphrodite. Eros, knowing the box is booby trapped, will sadly be too late to save her...NOT! Yes, this is one of those oddball stories where the jealous goddess does not win! Give it a read.

I remember getting so excited back in... 1998(?) when Hercules came out for just that reason!

The animation for the movie is wonderful. I was pretty excited for it when it came out too!

Every few years I hear a rumor they've got another one in the works... who knows, they animated in 2D recently, eh?

It's true. The Princess and the Frog was 2D animation and it was beautiful. Well, here's to hoping that they have more on the way.

Ah thanks! It's a bit of a challenge when I pick the greek heroines that are supposed to be outstandingly pretty (I think I'll be avoiding Helen for some time [link] )

I'm very flattered you like it! At first I really struggled with the style, but it's getting easier and easier to ape every time. This is really just practice for a Ariel and Peter Pan piece I'll be doing soon [link]

lol - I love how this came out, and you're right that the original myth is an amazing piece of work. Personally, I think Psyche here looks a bit more vintage pin-up than I would have imagined, but hey, I guess that's just the stlye of it. And...lol at the tiny blue Eros in the background

Thank you so much! This, and perhaps Persephone's relationship with Hades always struck me as oddballs! If you've ever seen BattleStar Galactica, I sort of had one of the main Cylons in mind when I drew her. I figured she had to make Aphrodite jealous somehow!

No, I haven't seen BattleStar Galactica, so I'll just have to take your word for it.
And...yeah - Persephone's relationship with Hades IS really messed up. I mean, he's technically married to his niece...*shudder*. Ah well, all the Greek mythological characters had incredibly messed up families anyway.
