Description
This is a commissioned picture for Shadowfox and of their wonderful characters Rynn and Alaea. On their way through the woods he's helping her to climb some rocks and takes the opportunity to give her an - very unexpected - kiss on the hand.I usually don't offer traditionally painted commissions, but this was a special exception. Painted with acrylics and a bit gouache on bamboo mixed media paper. Original size is A3 (12x16'').

You know, this image actually gave me inspiration for a somewhat similar event in a story I'm currently writing, no easy task on my part as I'm having difficulty coming up with good events to fill it in. While excellent, superbly-made and finished pieces like this are hard to come by for me, those that actually inspire me to do something productive are much more rare. I just thought you might want to know. Thanks for sharing!

this is unbelievable! I have NEVER seen such amazing details on a traditional piece! and the shading... it's just beyond words.... it's like you were there at the scene watching it play out before you, and you managed to etch it into reality. it's just plain amazing. I love how all the textures are rendered perfectly... like the sharp edges of the rocks, and the soft, squishy look of the moss and grass. not to mention your shadows are placed in precisely the right places, so it's impossible to think there isn't really light coming through the picture... it just looks so real, yet you saved the nice painted look in there. I also find the background to be just stunning! it's like looking at the forest through my screen... amazing. and then the anatomy X.X I cannot even begin to say how much I love this! it's perfect in every way. the time, place, characters, and scenery, it all blends together perfectly! I'm sorry for such a long comment, but wow! this is so beautiful T.T

The shadows the characters cast on the environment is throwing me off a bit. The main light source appears to concentrate behind the red fox's left thigh, and most of the background reflects as such, as well as the illumination on the characters themselves...except the shadows cast on the surfaces in the foreground suggest there is a strong light source coming from the right of the painting, in the forest. I imagine there'd be some reflected light from that direction for sure, but the intensity and sharpness of the shadows would be too strong for such a thing.
To be fair, it may have been a decision for the purposes of leading the eye and keeping it focused on the characters. Composition! I think it does do that job well.
