Description
This is my contribution to the Anthro Calendar 2010 (unfortunately there is no website yet). The theme is "unusual anthros" and I chose the okapi, inhabitant of the congolese rainforest in AfricaThe background was a pain in the ass, especially the water ... and yes, the male okapi is drinking water out of his palm. ; P The clothing should be traditional congolese, as far as I can trust the only 3 ancient reference illustrations of congolese men and woman.
EDIT: Thank you so much for suggesting this piece as a DD! And thanks for featuring it! I really appreciate it!

I adore okapis (because they're the closest relative to my favourite animal, the giraffe). I think you've captured their gentle natures s well in this.
The background and layout of this piece is beautiful. Tranquil and well set out. I adore the feeling this picture has.
I love the expression on the female's face, and the way the male is drinking in the back. The tribalish outfits on both are really nicely done too.
Gorgeous work, and congrats on the DD!

Beautiful and unique! I have a healthy appreciation for interesting and well done anthros, yours is a real treat! They have a great feel about them, very strongly connected to their home.
There are a couple of places that could use improvement, the female's right ear seems a bit flat, the gaps on her left hand seem a bit off, but they are small details.
All in all, a curious piece that inspires me to think, bringing stories of distant places and childhood dreams to mind. Very well done!

Thank you for the compliment as well as the criticism! I always try to improve and do better with my drawings but still, I can't avoid every mistake. Thanks for pointing them out though.

Lovely lovely painting by the way!

Yay for Okapi! I love the colors and lightening, and their poses. My favorite parts are the female's face and the male's legs.
I wish I could see one of those amazing animals in real life. *_*

As always, Nim. I'm a fan of yours. If I had the money, I'd probably buy every print you've ever made.
I still can't believe you do all your work in the same style, and have such outstanding results every time. You're a truly incredible artist.
And I definitely love the clothing, though it almost resembles the Egyptian style slightly more than the Congolese styles.
Anyway, amazing attention to detail, as always, shown in the female's ears, and the male's stripes. Hands down, you're always in this for the long run, and put out a great show.

Wow, thank you so much Kioni! :sentimental:
Actually I had no clue how the Congolese's traditional clothing looks like. The only reference I found was an ancient illustration. :/ So I'm not entirely sure if their clothes look like this.

You shouldn't even have to worry about it. Traditionally, the africans hardly even wore clothes. They were more on hunting things for survival. Maybe the leaders wore a loin cloth, but it also depends on what time frame you're looking into. I don't know so much about what era and such you were looking for, but I think everything you do is a masterful work of art. That's why you've consistently been my number one favorite artist with a brush for about 7 years now. Congrats on all the work you've accomplished so far! I hope to continue being a fan of yours!
