Looks like someone doesn’t seem to understand what is and isn’t an issue with Byleth’s addition.  

It’s not just a bunch of manchildren upset at “another anime swordsman”.  No, there’s more to it than that, based on what I’ve learned.  

Essentially all of Fire Emblem’s inclusion in Smash Bros has boiled down to one thing: promotional value.  

As early as all the way back in Melee, the inclusion of Fire Emblem characters has served as pretty much an interactive advertisement for their series, and correspond to either an upcoming or recent release.  And almost *every single Fire Emblem character* follows this pattern:

Melee: Marth and Roy (Original Fire Emblem remake for GBA and Binding Blade)
Brawl: Ike (Radiant Dawn)
Sm4sh: Lucina and Robin, Corrin (Awakening and Fates, respectively)
Ultimate: Chrom, Byleth (Awakening and Three Houses)

The only exception to the pattern was Chrom, though he was teased as possibly being added in the future in Robin’s reveal trailer for Sm4sh.

The problem now is that they’ve still been using that same strategy for nearly 2 decades, and a relatively small Nintendo IP has been grossly overrepresented in comparison to other franchises.  It *makes sense* for Mario and Pokémon to have lots of characters because they’re *huge* franchises.  But Fire Emblem isn’t a Nintendo titan like Mario and Pokémon, as much as some people may want to claim it is.

And it’s not Sakurai behind this, though he is not immune to criticism.  It’s been confirmed that Sakurai himself doesn’t choose which characters become DLC, but Nintendo.

Now, I wonder if you’ll take my information and accept it, or instantly dismiss because it doesn’t echo your sentiments like the rest of this comment section?

So, people are angry at Byleth being in the game because there are 'too many Fire Emblem characters. Let's see, by that logic, we should also be hating on Mario and Pikachu too.

The Mario series has Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Peach, Bowser, Wario, Rosalina, Daisy and Bowser Jr. That's nine Mario characters, sixteen if you count the Koopalings.

The Pokemon series has Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Pichu, Mewtwo, Pokemon Trainer, Squirtle, Ivysaur, Charizard, Lucario, Greninja and Incineroar. That's eleven characters.

If we're giving crap for Fire Emblem having too many characters, shouldn't we also give crap to these franchises for also having too many characters?

Sakurai works his head off for us, so we should at least appreciate what he offers, you ungrateful assholes! Plus, I'm pretty sure that the people whining about Byleth's inclusion will end up playing as them anyway, making them total hypocrites.

And there are still six slots left for DLC fighters, so stop complaining already you self- entitled pricks!

I, for one, am completely fine with Byleth being in Smash, even if they weren't who I was hoping for, and I am looking forward to playing them.

Sorry for taking so long, but I needed to rant too from all the toxic stupidity people have.

The angriest are the loudest, but there will always be the DETERMINATION of those happy.  Three Houses won Game of the Year because of the fans, so when Byleth comes around, there will be a lot of people happily buying them, playing them, and so on.

Flowey definitely reminds me of Undertale here, chastising those who try to go back on their actions and such.  Nice work.

I totally agree, this is getting out of hand. As for me, I'm cool with Byleth.
