Actually, according to the Mirage comics he only has four fingers and four toes but for whatever reason I decided to give him five. This was most likely an early attempt. All my other pictures of Leatherhead have him with four fingers and four toes.

I know, its just that real reptiles normally have five digits. The turtles and LH having so few just bugs my inner biologist.

I find it strange that the TMNT of old had three fingers but yet only two toes. At least Nick tried to fix that with adding the 3rd toe. What I really hated was when the 4Kids cartoon gave Leatherhead monkey feet. That was just wrong. Another thing that bothers me is when they give humans four fingers in certain animated cartoons. What human has four fingers?!

Aside from the occasional person with deformities of the hands and/or feet, not many. That's definitely just artists taking the easy way out.

Yes, I thought so to. Believe it or not back in the day, I had a chance to do a new TMNT comic book series. Well, a woman who worked for an advertising agency wanted to get the rights to it and me and my friend Mark were working on getting some stuff together for a portfolio. This was where I got carried away and did a character design of leatherhead. The whole thing fell through but who's to say we won't get our chance again.
