Just my Smash list. It got Smaller as of Ultimate Since "everyone is here!" Ridley, K rool and BANJO and KAZOOIE!!!And yes i know some of my wanted are Assist Trophys i still want them well better luck next game..... 10 Years from now :'v

Spyro and Malefor (as a guest boss, as some people wanted for SMB4 Wii U, because TLOS got popular in Wii. Many knew Activision wouldn't let Nintendo get their hands on Spyro, not even Sakurai said a thing about a possibility, nothing)

When Super Smash Wii U was announced years ago, around 2012, as usual, many characters were proposed and voted when aproved by Sakurai. Characters as Pacman, Megaman and Animal Crossing villager were, at first, proposals that were aproved.
Some proposals were jokes, others were true stuff people begged for, as a return of Solid Snake, Megaman and Pacman, that got their 'invite' at the end after a poll that included the Animal Crossing Villager.
Among the proposed ones were Steve from Minecraft, a character no one took seriously; Spyro got into these proposals.
Activision has a long story of not working very well with other videogame companies, so hopes of having Spyro there were already dead from the start, and things got confirmed or 'somewhat' by Sakurai's silence. Yet, people added presure to see Malefor as a guest boss, because the last game of the TLOS trilogy, Dawn of The Dragon (released in 2008), became so popular on Wii.
Activision worked with Nintendo on the Wii version of TLOS for business, money making purpose. But having them to hand Spyro over Smash was quite of a stretch. Besides, Skylanders was the big thing from 2011 to 2016, having Spyro somewhere else too could had been a big risk in the eyes of Activision, Toys for Bob ( or that's what I think, deduce from the facts) and the other companies involved in the Skylanders making.
Yes, Spyro has been in the hands of Toys for Bob before this Reignited adventure, designing Skylander characters...
No videogame company would tell they won't work with X for Y unknown reasons, its bad for their business. Knowing a bit of marketing, this is like openly saying you are unwillingly to compete for the same stuff working in a group or hold. That can scare investors away, or at least, keep them at bay.
Sakurai had said that there were characters he would had liked to add, but said no due animation, and other limitations. Also, others told him no for many reasons, so you get the idea.
Knowing this, Malefor was proposed, though nor Nintendo or Sakurai said a thing about it. The proposal was thrown away in silence for reasons unknown.

thanks for the story. its hard what Companies will do or how much Resources/ they can spend to get so much content into one game and SMASH is HAGE already as it is....wont stop the fans from asking for more...me include -w-... I'm so ashamed of myself

Which characters did Sakurai/Nintendo reject? Quite a bunch
There were people that wanted to see more CAPCOM characters as Frank West, from the original Dead Rising, in Super Smash Wii U, because of Megaman and the fact Dead Rising got on Wii on 2013. Capcom said not a chance, after all, Megaman has been their mascot for quite a time.
Then, he appears in DC comics v/s Capcom...

Anyway, having Malefor as a guest boss would had been out of place. What would he do? There could had been a kind of introduction? Ridley made sense because of Samus, but Malefor without Spyro around is like a hot dog without the bread. Its just a stupid, sad sausage.

Joel from The Last of Us always was a joke, a reference Playstation's All Stars game, mocked as Sony's 'copycat' of Nintendo's Super Smash series.
In the classic series of Spyro, they had no archnemesis for Spyro. They had the idea of giving that role to The Sorcerer in Shadow Legacy, but they decided to cut with the classic games, and try something darker and more grown up, hence TLOS. If Sierra had the change to live longer that it did, its said that Malefor would had been a recurrent returning force, but they went bankrupt in 2008.

Hades resizing would be an interesting challenge. Much more than Ridley. But Kid Icarus deserves more characters in Smash, he'd be the perfect choice.

The least wanted makes sense. You gotta keep it a video game-only game, even though Smash 64 had a bomb from Goldeneye 007 as one of the weapons.
My most wanted newcomers are Sir Arthur from Ghosts ‘n Goblins and Klonoa from the eponymous franchise. Shantae would also be a nice addition as well.
