Description Here's a picture of Setsuka from Soul Calibur 3 I did for a friend of mine. I'm not really good at drawing female characters, but I was surprised at how well this one came out.

Okay, I have looked through a couple of your character pictures, and I think that you are having difficulties with the basics, actually. That means linework, shading, proportion. Actually I think that first of all you should work on the proportion. For that you can work just with a pencil at first, colour would only distract. I suggest you take some reference photos (or even better, nude drawing courses - if you have the time and money for that), and then try to draw them, without any detail really, just focusing on proportions and shapes.
After a while you will get a feeling for human proportions and for how the various elements of the body relate to each other.
After that you should work on your lines, you should try to build them up gradually, starting with hard leads, doing thin and light lines, and then using softer leads to create dark, leading lines where you need them.
And last but not least comes the shading, something that I miss in your colourings too. You have mostly flat colours with not much shading going on, which takes away from the piece and the realism of your figures.
Also, if you plan on colouring in drawings later on, perhaps don't shade them before the colouring process, because that will cause messiness.
But yeah, I think it's really those three things that bugged me in all of your character pieces. Once you nailed those, it's just a matter of time effort and refinement
Hope that helped a little,
Daniel

Thank you very much for your help Daniel. Nobody else has really given me that much explanation on what my art is lacking and your advice really helps me know what I need to focus on. I'll start working really hard and fill up some sketchbooks with a lot of practice work as soon as I have some free time. Thanks again for your thorough critique and advice and I hope I'll be able to improve someday.

oh you will improve, I am sure just don't expect it to come over night, it takes a while. and it's a subconscious process but you will improve, if you practise, I am sure

You're welcome!

Thanks. Trust me I know improvement comes gradually, Kung-Fu taught me that. Plus I'm going to spend a lot of time practicing. Thanks again for all your help!

Soul Calibur makes me happeh :3
Nice picture, you should do someone else from SC, like Taki and her ENORMOUS camel-toe ;D

I've been thinking of doing more SC III characters, but I've been working on a drawing of Link, and I plan on doing a solo of Zelda, and one with the two of them together. I'll do the SC ones after that. Yoshimitsu (in the octopus costume) and Seigfried were the ones I wanted to do, but since you requested Taki, I'll do one of her to. Probably a portrait kind of thing, cuz I'm not that good at drawing female characters . >_<

I was kiddin' around about the Taki thing, you really should do Yoshimitsu, he's awesome, especially with his squid/octopus head-thing

HOLY MUFFINS THERE ARE NO INTESTINES!

*ehem* i will be lenient in my ripping since advanced critique is NOT encouraged.

1. Study the female figure more. Although it is an anime character, they do have proportions...somewhat. I can't say I'm amazing at proportions, because I'm not.
2. Draw your hands. Or take pictures of someone's hands in the position you need it in. When you find someone who can hold onto a parasol or katana with their hands like that, call me.
3. Facial Structure: take a closer look at your character. The facial features don't line up in a natural order and the cheek is in a weird place. I CAN comment on features, because (without being cocky) I am good at that.

That's my comment. Sorry for any sarcasm in there.

Don't worry about sarcasm or advanced critique on my art! The more brutally honest the better, besides not many people critique my work.
