First of all, I have to say this is absolutely fantastic! As I browsed through the group this immediately caught my attention, and that is a job well done on such a busy website! The lighting and shading makes for a superb atmosphere, making the wizard seem partly nice and approachable but also slightly intimidating; like he could turn you into one of his animals at any second. The mix of eras fit pretty good in there as well; mixing magic and technology in a soup that has quite the rich taste.Β
I also really love how you used the colors to emphesise where the light sources are coming from, it gives such a well-built feel to it all with the magic book/finger, headpiece and candles making a nice blend of light. You also did a pretty good job at evening out that light with dark patches and such. The various animals also adds on that intimidating feel I mentioned earlier <: All in all I gotta applaud you, cause this is really good! I almost want it to end at this, but I gotta through some other comments in here too -Β
-so now to the critique part!
While the colors and lines work pretty well together, the blend of named colors could be smoother. I understand you went with a rough-style in this piece, but having more blended colors can give a great effect, especially when playing with light. Following this, the lines of the various objects could be clearer. Working with fuzzy lines can be much fun and have the ability to produce wonderful art, but when you go for the kind of painting such as this I would suggest keeping from that temptation. It makes for such a more in-depth painting, all though the way you did it here has quite the charming style in it.Β
I hope this helped in any way <:Β

Hey there it helps a lot, I am very grateful for your kind words! I put nearly all my recently learned painting abilities here but I have to practice it much more, I normally spend a lot of time with line drawing but i should definetly improve my painting and specially my edge control and my color blends. I will try to rework this one a bit and maybe do a better one soon and upload it here again
Thank you so much for your super long comment!

Hellooo~ I'm from
What an extraordinary concept of a wizzard! I really like those details you put in this drawing. most wizzard has owls or cat, but a panda? Now that's adorable! Is that a frog on his shoulder? panda and frog as a pet is really unique. His long beard somehow made him looks like a wise character. The metallic arm is really catchy, too~ The super long pipe is really match with him and adding uniqueness to this drawing. I like your shading and lighting in here~ but, i agree with the previous commenter, you can still push more the lighting. You can add orange for fire's glow on those candles, and by doing so, adding more highlight would be wise. I really like the lighting touch on the book~ and the reflected purple lights done nicely~ Since you mention that you have struggle shading metal, i think these tutorials will help you practice:
I think you can add more fur effect on panda's body just like what you did with the head fur ^^
Overall, i think you did a great job on this! Keep it up your great work and happy improving! Β ^^

Very nice advices, I will try getting that metal more shiny and better, I know that the panda would need a bit more work I just did a very rough shading for now and next week i do fur and hair week and after that I am ready for this
Thanks a lot!

oh wow, that's quite an impressive illustration!
The idea is really creative and the illustration in general is really well done.
I feel like the lighting is very good, but also that it could use a bit more orange glow to push that welcome and home-y feel a bit more. Also a tiny note on anatomy. I'm not sure, but I assume that that's his bionic leg underneath him. If it is, it's a bit short or at least thin compared to the arm. Perhaps thst's just a style choice, but it kind of feels off to me. Other than that the texture are great and the backlighting is a nice touch.
Come to think of it, back to the lighting, the metal arm should probably reflect some of it. As is, it looks like a rather dull metal, while the metal part on the head have a bit more shine.
Hope this was somewhat helpful!

Good ideas, wanted to create a cozy atmosphere so this orange glow (a bit dr quinn style ) could do some good. Have to practice more painting metal, I am still a newb with putting materials in different lighting conditions. Thanks for the critiques will work them in as soon as I have the time for it

Your illustration is still amazing though!
And no worries, I still struggle with that kind of stuff as well. I'm just a newb trying to help a fellow newb out.
