Description
Last night I wasn't feeling too well, so I decided to draw something a bit more realistic, and doing that cheered me up. I honestly didn't think this would turn out too well since I haven't done digital painting, but I think I did well and I'm happy with how it looks. I stayed up until 3 am last night and almost finished it, but decided to add the finishing touches today. This has a meaning to me, but I'd love to know how you guys interpret this yourselves. (Serious only please.)

The rainbow coming out of he's eyes is really cool!
The wolf may need more shading, but it's still cool.

I found this through ProjectComment and it stood out even as a thumbnail, which is a good start for any work on this site. The wolf's pose with the bowed head seems to signal resignation. It has come to terms with the situation and understands its powerless to change it. At the same time, there is a hint of mild anger present through muscle tension. I get the feeling that the wolf resents itself for not trying to change the situation, even though it strongly believes it would fail either way.
One thing that makes me wonder is using the same value balance throughout all the grayscale areas. I understand that making the colors stand out, there needs to be enough contrast between the colored area and the rest, but at the same time, a lack of color doesn't necessarily mean a lack of brightness differences between different materials. Some surfaces absorb light, some reflect it all in the same direction and some make it scatter in different directions. There's fur, claws, ground and the sky, yet I would hazard the guess that the lightest grays used on the wolf (not counting the cyan and gray highlights) are the same gray that's in the bright areas of the sky. I could be wrong, but that's the way it seems. I hope you don't get discouraged by this observation. The image works regardless of this, I'm just wondering if it could work even better if the value balance was different. It might be worth testing with simplified shapes so that you don't get distracted by all the fur details and such.

The meaning of this is very complicated.. but it makes sense, the way I see it, the wolf is being forcefully drained of his life, colour, his soul has been leaking from this dull world around him.. and its left behind, he blends in with this dullness because the world has took away his liveliness, on the other terms of things I love this piece ^^, really catches the eye by using the 1/3 rule almost perfectly, could be a little more dramatic where the tears are just to make it a little more eye catching, shadows are very well implemented and makes a 3d effect, the tears have an almost perfect flow, a little more detail on the ledge would be cool ^^, like the edge of the magenta almost spilling over with a few droplets building on the cliff ledge, the fading between colours is perfectly done and thats great work, the only other thing I would say is by adding slightly more highlights, reflections and shine to the nose, and that will be all good, amazing work and good job ^^

Thanks so much for your feedback, it means a lot! And I do admit, I added the nose while shading and just forgot about it after haha. But Iβll keep your comment in mind for my next piece, thanks again!

That looks really great!
I know exactly how you feel. I've been having depression myself for quite a while because of some rough personal problems I was going through and I still feel it inside me no matter how hard I try to suppress it . I struggle to keep myself on being positive, but as now, I felt like I'm close in getting over my depression.
I have an interpretation for this. It's like the wolf is trying to find a sign of change and hope in its life, despite its 'grey' state . So the rainbow tears showΒ there is still some hope left for the wolf somewhere within itself. That is what reminds me of my current situation through this painting.
Plus, this song also tells that:

Just know that you're not alone facing the same thing. You did an amazing job with this painting and I can tell you're absolutely a very talented artist.

Greetings from ProjectComment
As someone who has to deal with depression, it is refreshing to see artwork like this. It makes me believe that we as human beings can take our pain and suffering and turn it into something amazing like this. The wolf (one of my favorite animals) is very well drawn first of all. The realistic shading and fur pattern is flawlessly precise. In my opinion, utilizing the same black and grey color scheme as the background conveys the idea of how much our suffering blends in when we perceive the world around us as already dark. Which it is often better to seek help and companionship to share our burdens rather than hide it. The color running from his eyes to me represents the loss of our inner happiness, and the flow pattern shows that the wolf is in fact sitting on an edge as if he has nowhere further to go. Pouring our pain into something beautiful like this both inspires further creativity and lets others know that they are not alone in their suffering. That can make a world of difference. I am sorry for whatever it was that had you feeling down, but the fact that it lead you to create this amazing piece proves that the pain we must endure now, is only part of the joy to come later. You are an amazing artist. Donβt ever forget that.

Thank you so much for your comment, and you really nailed the idea of this drawingβs creation. I love to see my art up for interpretation, but its really amazing how feelings and struggles can be shared through a piece of art with no words. It really is true that a picture can mean a thousand words ^^

This is so beautiful!! I truly love the gray scale of the furΒ and the background. and the colors reflecting off the wolf's paw and muzzle looks amazing as well! It reminds me of cutting open glow sticks just to see the colors in liquid form. this is totally amazing, keep up the great work! Your improvement is truly amazing and you've come all this way!!
