What is Apophysis, i looked it up and know it is software, but what is so good about it?

Apophysis' greatest appeal, for me anyway, was that it's a free fractal generating program that offers a limitless range of abstract expression. It's a bit like being an astronaut exploring hidden realms that no one has ever seen before, using mathematical formula to present those ideas and dimensions in an artistic format.
