happy 20th anniversary, mario party! ⭐️🎈🎉

here's to 20 years of partying, button mashing, and destroying friendships!

can you recognise all of the characters and references? what's your favourite little detail of this whole drawing? i spent a lot of time and effort working on this labour of love, so i hope you all like it!

mario party has a special place in my heart, because i played it a lot as a kid, either by myself or with my mum, and the series gives me a lot of happy childhood nostalgia feelings! it was something for me and my mum to bond over when i was a kid. also, in recent months, my parents and i have gotten into the habit of playing mario party together (though we haven't done it in a while... we gotta get back to that lmao), and... those mario party sessions have given us all a few rare moments of actually laughing and having fun together as a family! without getting overly personal, that kind of thing is very rare these days, since my family has kiiinda completely fallen apart due to my parents' constant fighting... but whenever we play mario party together, we always end up having a really fun time. so, thanks for that, mario party

...sorry for getting so over-emotional about a mario spin-off series lmao. mario party is just a big comfort series to me, i guess

some other thoughts that i can't think of good segways for:
personally, my favourite detail of this drawing is probably the text on the side of the board game box
part of me was really tempted to have luigi be really tiny in the background, as a reference to how screwed over he was in the mario party 9 box art... but i couldn't bring myself to do luigi dirty like that. he doesn't deserve that kind of treatment

i wanted to improve some things from my kirby 25th anniversary drawing from last year, such as a more dynamic composition, more interesting poses/expressions, and more vibrant colours. i think i pulled all of that off pretty well!
