I really am sick of hearing about this...

After thinking on this can he literally call the characters his. He owns the interpretations of the characters but not the characters themselves which really bugs me. Sega is irrelevant from this because it seems they're sitting around and doing fucking nothing. I feel with these lawsuits Penders is doing more damage than mending. I understand the frustration but doing this it seems like he's going to crumble the same infastructure with people on it who have nothing to do with the situation.Β

I will agree on that. The echidna characters would be his whereas characters like Evil-Sonic/Anti-Sonic/Scourge and the anti-freedom fighters might be pushing it
Its like saying the guy who created the bizzaro characters for DC comics wanted royalties played for him just for making an AU which is now a trend at this point(heck I have 2 sonic AUs for example). Like he wants money every time they're referenced or someone goes on the bizzaro rollercoaster at six-flags

Yeah it's pretty crazy. Again I know Mr.Penders is upset but like I said and other people here have bought it up he's expressing his grudge the wrong way and going to end up hindering the process of the comic even future writers. It's a beautiful thing to see fans getting more involved with the legendary franchise first the comics allowing some every day people come in an write and now with letting Whitehead develop the next big title. These lawsuits will probably change the dynamic of the comics and....I'm not with that just because Penders wants to completely own the characters he didn't make in the first place.Β
He created some cool concepts and stories but despite the problems with Archie and hell the comic in general I don't think they deserve this.Β

The thing about Archie is if they go down they'll be like Atari you remember them for what they did but ultimately you forget they even exist compare to companies like DC or Marvel Archie is only remember for making the "Longest running comic based on a video game" and it mostly because it seen like the staff members wanted to make something enjoyable instead of kissing up to the big corporations that didn't even think about them until a former writer went like "Fuck this I'm suing you."
I don't know if it's a law somewhere but I thought you weren't allow to reprint, use, or even touch something that isn't yours if you don't have permission to use it isn't that like in the 2011 port of Sonic CD they couldn't use the original versions of both Toot Toot Sonic Warrior (Sonic: You can do anything) and Cosmic eternity (Believe in yourself) that's the kind of stuff that should get companies like that into trouble expectancy if people like Penders never sign any contract saying "All rights of your characters belong to us." and SoJ is at fault too since they could of easily sent out a lawyer or a representative on behave of the company but instead they stay quiet and not do anything about it and make more stupid decision making an easy victory for Penders even Konami did that when they screw Kojima with MGS V, Silent Hill, and his award.

I'm still on penders side. Seeing as sega doesn't want anything to do with these extra characters they would probably have Ian and others get rid of them.

Yeah, cause I know Ian wanted the comics to be more like the games even without the lawsuit stuff, so I'm sure other characters from penders and ex would be less and less

I'm sorry man. I know you like Kens work... but he's in the wrong. He never owned the characters. He should have gone to Ian and Archie once he felt he deserved credit. He shouldn't have gone behind Archie, Sega, and Ian's backs. And more importantly he shouldn't have stabbed all the innocent artists and fans in the back just so he keep what he's convinced is """"his"""".

I think Penders is right.
Cuz if I were in Penders' shoes I'd be pissed to if I wasn't getting played for reprints of works I put blood sweat and tears in to
So if Archie is gonna be full of babies and replace Penders because the editor (who was only there cuz the original editor was fired) was forcing penders to do things that don't make sense(like including shadow in M25YL)
So if you're gonna fire my friend, and then fire me for not listening to my friends replacement I'd be mad and take action too
Archie and Flynn are in the wrong

Okay I get why he's angry.
But having his grudge possibly ruin the stories and jobs of artists who
have nothing to do with this (and then claiming he's "fighting" for them)
is just being petty.
As an artist you need to know you can be kicked off a project for any
reason weather its a good reason (Rothman from X-Men) or bad (Kojima
from Silent Hills) you should now that going in.
If he really wanted to spite Flynn and Archie he should have Kickstarted
his own comic series with his own original characters to try and show them
that he doesn't need the Sonic brand or ANY of the characters to sell his
comic.
But he didn't. He decided to take the low road and put innocent peoples jobs on the line
Penders is in the wrong.

"Okay I get why he's angry."
Do you?
"But having his grudge possibly ruin the stories and jobs of artists who

While yes somewhat petty, they won't lose their jobs, they'll just be transferred over to the other books Archie makes
"As an artist you need to know you can be kicked off a project for any
reason weather its a good reason (Rothman from X-Men) or bad (Kojima
from Silent Hills) you should now that going in."
Well based on my research, penders never signed a contract saying that he's a temp or freelancer
"If he really wanted to spite Flynn and Archie he should have Kickstarted
his own comic series with his own original characters to try and show them
that he doesn't need the Sonic brand or ANY of the characters to sell his
comic."

"But he didn't. He decided to take the low road and put innocent peoples jobs on the line"
No, what he's doing is trying to get Archie to pay the people who deserve the money they aren't getting for reprints of their work whether be textual or visual.
"Penders is in the wrong."
Archie Comics is in the wrong, because they both unfairly fired and/or let people go, and then reprint their work in trades or graphic novels without Any recompense to the original artists and/or writers.

1. Yes I do. Getting kicked off a series your very passionate aboutΒ must be rough. But that doesn't mean you can't have a level head about it.
2. Who's to say this won't unravel Archie
3. Walt Disney was fired from making Oswald the Lucky Rabbit cartoons despite him being the creator and director.
4. Those were not his characters. Those were characters he made FOR Sega and Archie that rely on the lore of the Sonic universe.
5. If that's all he wanted he could have just discussed it with Archie. But no he made this personal and all he's doing is using the "trying to get Archie to pay the people who deserve the money" angle as an excuse for his revenge fueled lawsuit. This is no different than that time the guy who claims to have created Daleks tried to sue BBC.
6. This is no new this for comics, cartoons and TV shows most artists/writers get paid by commission and very rarely do people get paid for reprints/reruns and pretending that it's only being disingenuous.
I think Penders is in the wrong
It was fun debating with you but I'm going to bed.Β Β
