Mike Tysons life was turned around by Pigeons,
he spurred my interest in them...
Can I ask why they are a nuisance...Do they take
over the feeders or scare off the little baby birds??
Thank you Barb for your reply

I have a flock of European Starlings, black spotted starlings, and they come 25 or 50 at a time to
clean out the feeders....They only come in from December until about March and then they
are gone to somewhere else, so I started not filling the hanging feeders, and started using the
flat feeders or the ground feeders and they are not too bad now...
This way the seed is on the ground already for the little birds and the Doves
and the starlings like to pick through the hanging feeders for all the soft treats...
and then throw the rest of the stuff out and all around....I too was buying so much
seed since December, I was on a first name basis at the local Farm store....LOL
I hate to withhold food from any animal, even bully birds are hungry, so this seemed
like a win/win situation for me...
Do the pigeons eat off the ground or are they favoriting your hanging or flat feeders and throwing
the seed all over the ground...??
I also built a nest of old branches and sticks, it is about 5 feet high now, the branches are from my willow trees,
and placed the sparrow and wren food in the bottom of the nest on a metal table so they can
hide in the tree branches and the starlings do not like to go in there at all....
I am always trying to find humane ways to keep all the birds, rabbits, squirrels and the occassional
possum and raccoon and cat happy...It is a hobby that keeps me pretty busy most of the time...

I found a couple of articles on bully birds and it won't paste here...
I foundΒ an article on bully birds, seeing that it won't paste here
I am including some short sentences for you...
city pigeons today are actually feral domestic pigeons
that have been bred for centuries and originally stem from the rock dove.
Pigeon droppings look awful on your roof and the uric acid (that white stuff) in the poo
can damage your house. In addition, the droppings contain bacteria and fungi that can be
dangerous to humans. Some examples are Histoplasmosis, Cryptococcosis and Psittacosis.
A nice alternative to bird spikes, is using a slinky.
Attach it along the roof or balcony edge or feder,
with the circles not more than one finger length apart.
Secure it tightly with tape or wire every 8 inches.
The pigeons will not like it because they canβt hang out on your property.
This has become a very popular and safe repellent for these unwanted birds.
Note to you Barb....Not sure if they even make slinkys anymore.....
Use reflective objects. It is worth trying to use reflective tape on your roof edge,
or hanging objects that make noise or balloons to scare off the pigeons.
For instance, let some firecrackers go off any time a pigeon lands somewhere.
Make sure to use firecrackers that are not dangerous for children.
This bird repellent is as easy as it can be, and it works every single time!.....
Note to you Barb....
I started using the emergency horn on my car that sits in the driveway, as soon as the bully birds
come in, I hit Emergency on the key ring and the horn blares and blares and blares...You might
have to do this a few times if your car is equipped with the emergency horn....
Not sure about fire crackers, might scare all my babys away...
Pigeons do not like it spicy.
Sprinkle cajun pepper, cinnamon or pepper in places where birds often sit.
Do not be stingy with spices and repeat it after rain.
Just some ideas Barb...I saved the page if you want to read more and can send it to your
personal messages...
