The bg here is pretty simple. Nothing fancy. Just be sure what kind of feel you are aiming for. Since I made up my mind late, that, the bg would be a little fire-y so that's why not much is reflected on characters. I use some random brushes with scattering full on and brush duality checked. Then I use overlay/colour dodge and multiply/linear dodge for brightening and darkening the areas as you can see.

Even though you are seeing more of yellow and orange here but I must tell you a myriad of colours went into the background, including black and white also!
