Description So here are all the character tokens that players can use for the boardgame. I tossed on the ogres, even though they don't fit on my pretty little layout
the ogres shown are the templar, ranger, druid, rogue, and monk, i'll get around to doing the missing three at some point...
you'll notice they're not all colored... still working on that in between other projects

Just for the sake of curiosity, how are the Sorcerer and Mage different? Or aer you still working on that?

sorcerer would have been a sort of hybrid magic/melee class, where mages would have been specifically magic based. sadly this project has been long since given up :/

thanks for the question though

This is very good. I especially enjoy the lizards. Though not I'm wondering...exactly what kind of boardgame is this? Is it a wargame like Warhammer? Or is it a some form of D&D, White Wolf, or some other Tabletop RPG-like thing (Without the role-playing part.)?

Anyway, keep up the good work, I like what I see.

kind of played like the newest edition of D&D does with miniatures come to think of it, player could choose a few skill/ability/spell card decks and combinations based on their class (ex. Templars could use melee skills + either death magic or life magic)

ideal was to take the tactical play of games like Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy Tactics, etc and fit it with a modular board and easily accessible skill cards.

anyhow... glad you like them

I see. Thanks for clearing that up.

I do have two problems though:

1.You probably get this a lot, but the trolls and orcs look a lot alike abd could easily be mixed up. Oh well, details, details.

2.I've never been a big fan of just calling lizardmen...lizardmen. It would be nice to see them have an actual name for their race. It worked for EverQuest. But that's just me, you do what you want.

Just checking back in to see if there is any progress on these guys. Would still love to see these finished, and would still love to know any background to these guys.

What was the boardgame? Seriously!

hey, sorry i never responded to you're initial post, was away from deviantart for awhile and must missed it till now.

It was just a game a few class mates of mine did for a workshop in college, was a lot of fun to work on but sadly nothing ever came of it once we finished the class :/

I'd kind forgotten about these tokens but they seem to be one of the more popular things in my deviant gallery, I'm starting to think I might have to revisit them, maybe do a redux version 2 or something...

anyhow, thanks for the support

very cool picture. Though strangley you drew the trolls and orcs very similar looking. It looks very hard to tell them apart.

I think the troll warrior, shaman, and monk really hit what i wanted for the trolls, the others (like the ranger) do tend to be trimmer and more like the orcs. Good observation, thanks

I'm very glad you like them, they were a lot of fun to do and something i wish i did more of.

I don't know if i'll have the chance to work on tokens of this kind any time soon, which is a shame, as they're very entertaining and its so rewarding to do art that can actually be used for something like a board game.

Thanks again for your comments

Several things;
1: These are some great archetypes for characters, especially the goblin ones, my personal fav
2: I would love to see them all finished. Please find the time.
3: What game are they for? Just the art has made me interested in what sort of game it might be. I love board and card games, so please, some more information or I may go mad

Such dedication! There's so much work gone into these, and there's so little of this quality around. If you put these onto a site such as PaperWorlds, the gamers there would absolutely freak over them.
Beautiful job.

Thank you
I'll check out paperworlds and if i ever finish coloring these i might post them there in a more print/cutout-friendly file for people to use. Thanks agian for the support.

'Sokay.
If you try it on PaperWorlds, wait 'till they start to beg for more (and they will,) and then go commercial on them.

Cool! I really like the Goblins, especially the Mage. How come there are no Lizard Mages, or Orc Sorcerers? Is their race not compatible to the class?

Nith47 In reply to Nekochan-Lover [2006-02-06 02:25:43 +0000 UTC]

there were lizardman mages and orc sorcerers but i really didn't like how they looked so i left them empty when i posted to force myself to redraw 'em later
