Description
Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus) about to drop into a stoop where they can hit incredible speeds making them the fastest creatures on earth.I had to crop this image very heavily as the bird was just a dot in my viewfinder, this is basically the bird full size but I've cropped out the acres of blue sky from around it. I was just really happy to get a shot in focus as it was moving so quickly, this is the only shot in the sequence that came out.
Enjoy!

Cheers Greg, more luck than anything else I guess! I must have reeled off about 20 shots in burst mode and just tried to keep the bird in the viewfinder with an AF point over the bird so the camera could try and keep focus. It was very difficult though as the bird was a fair distance away so was small in the viewfinder and it was moving fast.

I doubt luck has much to do with it, because all of your photos are amazing!

Cheers Greg, you are very kind. Believe me luck is a big part of it, a lot of my shots get deleted straight away!

It's a captive bird in a flight display at my local bird of prey centre.

Hey great list Michael! That's really cool, cheers for posting it. It's good to know that a Squirrel can outrun a Pig!

Great capture, that's one fast moving target! Looks like it was just rolling into the start of the stoop at the moment you captured the shot.

Thanks Sheryl, that's exactly right it had just turned and started to drop and was pulling it's wings up, the next shot is out of focus as it had already started moving too fast for my camera to keep up and the next shot after that it's virtually out of the frame as I couldn't pan fast enough! I'm really chuffed to have got one useable shot!

What an amazing angle! You always manage to capture images that feel so unique - I've never quite seen photographs like yours before, even though I'm familiar with the subject matter. Very nice work!

Very nice. Was it a captive Falcon? Not that it matters, cause I love the shot.

Shame, it's great to watch them fly free. But still nice to visit to see them up close.
