Description
Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus) about to drop into a stoop where they can hit incredible speeds making them the fastest creatures on earth.I had to crop this image very heavily as the bird was just a dot in my viewfinder, this is basically the bird full size but I've cropped out the acres of blue sky from around it. I was just really happy to get a shot in focus as it was moving so quickly, this is the only shot in the sequence that came out.
Enjoy!

It is indeed the fastest creature on earth, up to 190mph in full stoop. You captured it beautifully, I'll forgive the crop as I know how hard they are to photograph, I haven't managed a decent image yet (although I've been trying in the wild ).

This is stunning. I absolutely love it. Beautiful capture. Hehe I showed a good friend of mine this photo, he was impressed. But started ranting about how a Gyr falcon has got to be THE fastest thing on the planet animal wise. He's seen both in action with his own eyes hehe. But yes, top photo

From [[link]
"Accurate records of the speed of animals are rather scarce. The best
measurements have been made in recent years by following them with
an automobile or airplane and reading a speedometer, or by using
movie cameras, stop watches and other devices.
The world's record for speed among living things Is best established for
the Indian spine-tailed swift, a bird which was repeatedly clocked In
level flight, over a carefully measured two-mile course, in as little as
3Z.8 seconds or 219 Mlles an hour. The European peregrine, a hawk
used in falconry, was timed at 165 to 180 mph during its dive after
quarry. In the United States, the golden eagle and the duck hawk can
dive from high altitudes at similar speeds and the latter, In level flight,
easily overtakes and seizes such swift birds as ducks and pigeons."
Regardless, they are fast and you have captured a beautiful shot.

I don't have the original file to hand to check the EXIF but I think I was shooting at about 1/2000th sec.

how the hell did I miss this!
(So glad I have a new PC and am back on line)
Now I know how difficult it is to get a shot of one of these buggers! they can hit over 200mph! I have tried on several occassions to get one in flight, managed to get just the one but the quality was rubbish!
This is outstading mate! Super shot!
