I'm not sure what's more surprising - that he was so willing to let her choose the game (without any qualification as to what manner of game) or that she has taken so long to decide to try this tactic...

Oh, I got that he was expecting her to choose a video game but I'm just a little surprised he didn't see that there might be other kinds of games she might try... but hey, Bill and Ted managed to get the better of the Grim Reaper with it, so he probably shouldn't feel too bad.
I wouldn't have thought she would struggle to persuade her boyfriend she needed another cute outfit but relationship dynamics are a curious thing... and I think she was having just a teensy bit of fun in this contest.
