I think the detail here is simply very well shown. The head/skull is as good looking and as realistic as any other good popular artists around.
The only thing I would have done to it myself, had I known how to draw this good that is, is to remove some of the neck bulk and rotate the head approximately 15% clockwise. Other than that, pretty impressive work.
