Description Another bit of artwork I made for “Age of Aquarius”, this time showing a group of monarchist soldiers celebrating their faction’s victory on Ganymede, near the end of the Thunderbolt Revolution in the 22nd century, and posing with the flag of the Empire they just helped establish.

The Revolution saw the unpopular Jovian Federation deposed by the Fulmen Dynasty, a race of genetically-engineered monarchs whose century-long march through the institutions saw them bide their time, until the Osiris Incident (a botched attempt to shore up popular support by starting a war with Mars...which the Federation lost, and would have lost more if the Fulmen didn’t intervene) put them on a collision course with the regime. If I sound vague and scattered, it’s because I’m still in the midst of writing what exactly happened (or even *when*, that’s why I didn’t give an exact year - at the time of me writing this, I don’t know when exactly the Revolution happens).

Anyway. These peeps are members of the Imperial Ganymede Commandos, a revolutionary cell which has sworn allegiance to the Fulmen Dynasty. All of the soldiers here are Aquarani (descendants of the Anglo-Indian Aquarius Program to colonize Ganymede), although they are but one squad of the 3,000 or so soldiers in the IGC. The older guy on the far-left and the gal holding the flag are both aquamorphs (if you look carefully you can see gill slits on the guy’s neck and on the woman’s torso), while the chap on the far-right is a devout Sikh of English descent - a sight not at all uncommon on Ganymede. And the individual in the beret, sitting in front of the flag, is a knight of the Order of the Storm (“Stormguard” or “SG”), the personal troops of the Fulmen Dynasty, distinguished by their all-black uniforms. Late into the Revolution, the Fulmen began preparing to consolidate their various political, corporate and paramilitary allies into the Stormguard (as separate from the Imperial Army established after the Revolution, which would be formed from the Federation’s army, with the old regime’s officer corps more or less intact, barring the least-trustworthy Old Regime loyalists), which began by integrating knights into revolutionary cells, first as advisors and eventually as leaders, although in other cases, paramilitary commanders were simply knighted into the SG as reward for their gallantry and service, as may potentially be the case here.
