Description Just a more modern rendition of Hank. I got tired of trying to dig up photo references of 60s hairstyles.

For this one, I just tried to imagine what Hank would look like in real life standing in front of you. So I disregarded everything I knew about superhero proportions and tried for a more realistic physique.

I'm actually in the process of inking in the pencil drawing right now, so I'll probably post that one soon. I'll also work on drawing the rest of his legs and compositing those onto the picture as well.

Well, to a degree, photo references can hold an artist back and their art starts to look stiff and uninteresting. Some of the more talented artists can expand beyond the photo references and create a sort of hyper-reality that improves upon the original images. That's something that I'm constantly working on, but feel that I haven't quite gotten there yet.

I do agree that there is a certain freedom to working without any references at all.

yeah... sometimes i take a peak, like for hair color or muscle mass and stuff... they just change him soo much.... and your version of hank is my favorite... it looks like he is going to come right out and talk... only in my dreams, lol

Static cling maybe? Actually, I don't know. I just wanted him to have unusually hairy arms and I didn't really put much thought into the directionality of the hair itself. I guess it might be time for me to start looking up reference photos for arm hair (which is a sentence I never thought I would type).

Thank you very much! One of the things that I find the most interesting about Hank is that, in his human form, he has to be really hairy and yet still appear clean cut and intelligent. I think it's that dichotomy that makes him so fun for me to draw.

Hmmm, yeah I guess I can see that. It's not intentional since I was basing his face off of a photo of my buddy, Mark; but I guess Ryan and my friend just have some similar facial characteristics.

Outstanding work! Truth be told, for men at least, a lot of styles from the 60's still work for today. Only so much you can do to style short hair.
