Was this partially based off of a French Castle?

Have you ever studied the ancient ruins of Peru? They employ an interesting style of stone masonry to make fortress walls. Using stones that weigh around up to between 5 to 40 tons. They use no mortar. But they are fit together with such perfection that you can barely put a blade of grass inbetween some of the joints. They've lasted for hundreds of years. The style makes the walls slightly earthquake resistant. When movement happens, often the walls just settle back into place.

Wonderful but
1- I hope there are enough horses to bring people up and down that mountain
2- It's kinda strange that the buildings look like they follow the inclination of the ground instead of having a foundation that would be parallel with the horizon.
obviously those are technical observations but the painting is awesome. It's just that when I ask myself "would I want to live in that place" I immediately think "as long as I had a horse and could re-build my house to be straight, yes."

Beautifully handled with rich colour, a great feeling of solidity and nice aerial perspective.
