Description
My favourite species of Subterramundus is without a doubt horrornis cristatus, the created horror bird. From its original plan as a horrid scavenger to a sleek and intelligent hunter of megafauna, this bird has come a long way. It was the very first animal I created for this setting and I am very happy with it as it is now.
I am also fond of the giant sloth ursocnus, although not quite to the extent as horrornis as it is a recent addition.
Here a lone ursocnus is being confronted by a pack of horrornis. The sloth rears onto her hind legs, displaying her massive talons which can tear holes into cars and the flesh of predators. The phorusrhachids are wary of their prey’s deadly weapons but advance nonetheless, knowing their their waterproof feathers will protect them from an improperly angled claw swipe. As the birds close in the sloth knows she is done for. But she will still make sure to go out with a bloody fight.
