this is sweet! it reminds of the earthworm jim art work from the snes days, i think its the style of the figure itself. but the coloring is totally unique, i love the distressed look it has. lightbomb is a wise man, he wont steer you wrong.

well yes i see alot of similarities but i think theres no problem. and i wouldnt say take down this one cause i actually prefer it to the second one, the flow of the figure with the rocket is so awesome, it gives a great sense of motion. not a poor drawing in the least either.

Kweli speaks truth, and you should thank him BIG TIME for it. It takes a lot for someone to speak out and challenge you. There is already a Skottie. Step out and find your own voice. You can use texture, color, and line to your advantage already, just break out and everyday find new artists and life experiences to draw from. Good luck.

i hope you read my comment on the second drawing. maybe someday you will understand that i always play around with styles and techniques. And when you check my gallery you will also find also other drawing techniques. And yeah, i am sorry about that fact that i like to draw that way i draw and Skottie draw. And maybe there are thousends of peoples out there they draw the same style. But hey, you are the master of art. And i will accept it. Why should people draw like they want when they have people out there they can say how you have to draw.

LightBombMike In reply to NoahWhyler [2008-10-29 17:31:42 +0000 UTC]

I don't believe in anyway that you copied, so you have nothing to apologize about. I was just concerned that you were looking too much at Skottie for inspiration, and were echoing his voice instead of your own. And you have a talent that is entirely able to be completely unique. I liked a lot of your decisions better than his initial piece to be honest. The lightbulb on the rocket was awesome, and your details felt great. It just felt, and has for a while, that instead of going out and finding inspiration from life, you are finding your inspiration from the work he does. And that can harm you, as editors and fans will think of you as a copy, and not as wholey original as you can be. Think of all the Jim Lee, anime, and Joe Mad clones that get far less respect than maybe they deserve because people feel they are echoing someone else's work instead of stepping out on their own. And when I go through your gallery I can see you adapting your style through time as Skottie has been, which to me seems that you take your next step when you see what he is doing. I could be wrong, that is just how it appears.

I just wanted to let you know that you have the talent and technical skills to break free of any direct inspirations and truly become your own artist. I am no master though, and I am the first to admit it. I have my own artistic downfalls, and have looked to much of Skottie's work for inspiration, which I am sure you can see in my gallery. And I don't want you to not draw the way you want, or to take the fun out of it. I am just a firm believer that being challenged artistically by others makes you a stronger artist, and truth is the greatest gift you can ever receive.

Aight man, now, i think you are an AMAZINGLY talented guy, but, i have to say that the Skottie Young style is riding the taboo line a little bit. I mean come on now, you look at the pic ([link] ), and tell me if im crossing the line, but i think you have the ability to make and take AMAZING steps artistically, but you are holding on to his stuff too much yo. I really do think you have the capacity to step out on your own, and do your thing better, but you have to take those steps, keep up the good work yo, and continue to grow, PEACE!

I understand what you mean and trust me, it was really not my intention to draw it like Skottie agent. And at the moment i really play around with styles and techniques to draw. So thanks for your nice comment and sorry, for this poor drawing. Maybe my second version is better. [link]

Hey Noah, its good to see artists out there that can take criticism, and make moves according to it. I never want to make any person feel like they are garbage, and i was happy to see that you accepted my thoughts just as that, simple thoughts. I always want to be challenged, and in fact Skottie Young is a good friend of mi8ne whom i work with often and speak to often, and he challenges me with everything that i do, as do other artist friends of mine. Again, i think you are very talented, and i look forward to seeing more of what you deliver man, keep up the good work yo, PEACE!

i really like critcism. i think that all makes me stronger. and shows me people realize that what i am doing. and i am glad about people like you they say: hey, try it in this way or do it so! know what i mean?! i have here nobody who draws with me. or someone to talk about such things. art schools here dont accept my work and so i can study art. so i try to learn everything by ME. thats damn complicated but i try to do the best i can. so if you meet skottie again or something. my best regards to him. i wish you the best and a nice day.

I don't think you ripped this off from Skottie. I can see where they can come to that conculsion but there are differences in your pic and his. I think you are a huge fan of Skotties and your work comes from that and it is ok bro. Keep the good stuff coming.
