Description "Cortana, All I need to know is did we lose them."

"I think we both know the answer to that..."

"We made a blind jump...How did they..."

"..Get here first? The Covenant ships have always been faster. As for tracking us all the way from Reach, at light speed my maneuvering options were limited."

"We were running dark, yes?"

"Until we decelerated, no one could have missed the hole we tore in subspace...They were waiting for us on the far side of the planet..."

__________________________
Hope you enjoy!

The planet, stars, and nebulae in the background we're done solely in Photoshop. The ships were initially pencil sketches, which were later scanned and completed in Photoshop.

I find it kind of strange that, despite the fact that there were multiple Covenant battle groups converging on the Autumn's position, you never see one Covenant vessel in any of the variations of this cutscene. Thus, I decided to add one such battle group approaching the PoA.

EDIT: Increased file size to 1920 x 1080 and used the "Sharpen" tool to eliminate some of the blurring.

Yeah, it had a very interesting purple hue to it in the game. Thanks for the comment!

Very nice work. The angle, scale and overall composition are very nice. The only thing I'd change is maybe a little less motion blur on the fighters in the foreground. Maybe I'd have the main ship a little closer the viewer and the fighters a bit smaller (if that's how it would look, I'm not sure on the size references).

I'm amazed that this is a drawing through entirely. The clarity almost screams render!

Yeah, I did this one when I was still a little new to using the blur.

Yep! All digitally painted. Thank you very much, though!

Love the Halo universe and pretty much anything set in it. The light effects are pretty stunning, especially the engine glare of the Pillar of Autumn. How long did the initial drawing take? The motion blurred ships in the foreground also work well and lead you to see the Halo in a key focal point. One point I thought I'd mention is that it does feel a little cramped, I wonder what widening the shot would do to it?

Nice work though!

Thank you very much for the feedback - it is much appreciated.

I see what you mean about the "cramped" part. Looking back on it, it might have been a good idea to give the picture a more panoramic look. The funny thing was, I was basically making this up as I went, so it wasn't very well planned. ;]

Verdict: Nostalgia overload!

I have a strange soft spot for the Pillar of Autumn, probably because she's where it all began. The Autumn looked great in updated modern graphics; seeing her (and Keyes) in Reach (neither of which we've seen for about nine years) was the most memorable moment in the game for me.

Fantastic job!

BEST DESKTOP WALLPAPER EVER!!! I love how you did the engines on the Autumn, and how it looks like the Longswords are zooming by super fast. And the Covenant fleet in the distance is a nice touch.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Noble6Design In reply to scifi-ftw [2012-04-05 05:16:35 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much!

For the engines, I used a soft pale blue brush on 'lighten', then used a more white-colored brush set on 'vivid light'. I then added multiple lens flare layers over top, and set them to color dodge. I then played with the color balance setting on those lens flare layers to give the engines a nice blue hue.

For the Longswords, I simply manually painted those in a separate file, and then when I cropped them into the final picture, I applied motion blur filter to each.

Thanks again!

packstrap [2011-11-24 23:53:51 +0000 UTC]

I'll make this short, because I can only find one fault in this!

Your color use and rendering skills are very well developed. The only piece of critique I can give you is that you over-blurred most of your ships. It gives the impression of looking at a scene through glasses with the wrong prescription.
It looks like you spent a lot of time on this; don't let gaussian blur ruin your picture!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Noble6Design In reply to packstrap [2011-11-25 03:03:14 +0000 UTC]

The comment is much appreciated, and I see what you mean! The fighters out in front are supposed to have a motion blur, but when I was doing finishing touches to the entire picture, I probably should have tuned down the Gaussian blur.

Thanks again!
