Description

Consider this as a small teaser for my second (still in it's planning phase) Star Wars fanfic, set in the KOTOR era: "Dark Divergence"

Profile:
At a very young age and nearing the end of the Exar Kun Sith war, Rena's entire family was viciously murdered by a Sith warrior, prior to a great battle, during which she herself had killed him with her previously unknown Force powers, in an act of bloodthirsty revenge. Though her actions were of the Dark-side, the Jedi Master that had lead the Republic army to victory during the battle, instantly recognized her strong connection to the Force and had brought her before the Jedi Council to ask that she be trained as a Jedi, less she falls into the hands of the Sith.

Years later, the vicious Mandalorian Wars erupted, and Rena finally achieved the rank of Jedi Knight, though unlike the vast majority of her relatively still inexperienced and impressionable kin at the time, she opposed the Jedi knight Revan's crusade to battle the Mandalorian horde, siding rather with the council's decision of neutrality after the last war, as well as their caution for what might be lurking behind this one...

That said, another reason for not joining the crusade was her obligation to her duty as a Jedi Shadow, and agent of sorts of the secret Jedi Covenant, who's mission is to safe-guard the galaxy against the return of the Sith in any form. Though a closer look at her background, as well as that of the Covenant, might suggest that she had sided with them simply because of her deep seeded hatred for the Sith after the Exark Kun war, as was the case for many within the Covenant, making their existence a ticking time bomb of anger and hatred for the Dark Side, given time, to taint.

Nearing the height of the Mandalorian War, the Jedi Covenant was decisively destroyed by the true Jedi Order, after there tainted leadership was unmasked (the mastermind being a Jedi flunky, turned manipulative wannabe Sith Cyborg called Darth Haze) resulting in many of the surviving members who had no direct part in the conspiracy to go into hiding, Rena included. During this time of apparent exile and following a lead on ancient Dark Side artifacts that she felt needed to be destroyed, she crossed paths with a brilliant, if somewhat screwlose Gurlanin half-breed archaeologist, who oddly enough chose not disclose his birth name and instead gave a proxy name of Skarr.

Still suspicious of the odd fellow, Azeria went along with his latest expedition as one of the things he did disclose was that he was likewise searching for ancient Force artifacts too, which made Azeria even more suspicions of his intentions. Upon reaching the sight of the expedition, Skarr made the mistake of disclosing the fact that he had specifically been after Sith artefacts to add to his private collection, shortly after coming into contact with one such artefact and it having a peculiar affect on him, or rather, his presence having an affect with the artefact...

Realising then that this "Skarr" had a powerful connection with the Force, though unrealised and slowly drawing him closer to the Dark Side with each passing moment, Rena made the choice to end the threat of another Sith Lord rising before it was too late, and attempted to execut Skarr whilst he had his back turned ogling at some of the lesser artefact's to be found.

However, Skarr's latent Force sensitivity suddenly gave him a chill down his spine and warned him of the apparent danger he was in. Narrowly avoiding a strike from Rena's Lightsaber and then demanding an explanation, the renegade Jedi explained that she was mearly doing her duty to prevent him from ascending the figurative Dark Throne.

Unfortunately, the little revelation and immediate threat gave him more then enough motivation to tap into his newly discovered powers, and a battle ensued between the two Force users.

In the end, Skarr's power, however reckless and untrained was simply too much for the rouge Jedi to defeat in combat, and taking an alternative road to victory, Rena blinded the unstable archeologist and left him for dead, thinking that he would be unable to survive with the loss of his sight, whilst she made her escape.

Finally, the Jedi-Civil War erupted, and with the Hero's of the Mandalorian Wars turned villains, Rena, after enlisting with the the Republic fleet under the guise of a privateer, couldn't be happier then to finally be able to clash sabers with actual Sith and their servants at last, delivering swift and painful revenge upon all who served the Dark Side.

That is, until the vessel she was on was intercepted by a Sith battle fleet, and encountered Skarr once more, his sight restored and now a would-be Sith lord by the seemingly self appointed title of Darth Jargon, who fought, not with hatred and anger as other Sith would, and certainly without the near uncontrollable and untrained might as before, but with a calmer, more focused finesse that rivalled even Jedi Masters.

Unfortunately, she not only overestimated her own ability's, but woefully underestimated Skarr’s once again; earning him victory over her easily this time around. Yet instead of receiving a quick death as she had expected from his kind, the Sith spared her from it, instead revealing that she, unwittingly, had the same Darkness within her that she had seen in him, and not only allowed her to escape the ensuing battle, but also provided her with the necessary information to allow her to safely land on the Sith homeworld of Korriban, telling her that that is where he was headed next and expecting her to chase after him to, if anything else, settle their rivalry...

In the end, Skarr's charisma and powers of persuasion was so great that he finally succeeding in turning her into that which she had sought so long for to destroy, her revenge now twisted against the Jedi she once served...

The being known simply to most as Skarr, had held a vast amount of knowledge about the Force long before he even became Sith, without even knowing it; a trait which he had come across during in his late teen years, shortly after his family was adopted into the Alderananian nobility of House Thul.

Finding the politics and gambits of nobility painfully dull at the time, the young half-blooded noblemen took to the more humble career of archaeology, excavating both ancient Jedi and Sith tombs and ruins that were local to Alderaan, purely for museums and historical records, with funding obtained from his parents, so long as a 'reasonable' 75% of the profit made by him be invested into House Thul's treasury, that is.

As time passed though, Arrakis became more and more aware of a strange connection forming between him and several of these artifacts, with various Holocrons being the most influential among them, causing him to spend considerable lengths of time alone studying them with what could be called a madman's obsession, discovering later on that it was due to his undiscovered and secret Force talents, which were resonating with the powers trapped within these relics of old. Naturally, he sought more information.

Considered "too old" to join the Jedi Order and thus unable to gain access or knowledge from the're own collection of artifacts, Arrakis took the duel guise's of his archaeologist nickname of "Skarr", as a simple and unimportant Amaran trader.

With his identity well hidden, Skarr and his custom made droid bodyguard, HK-26, begun his own independent search for more of these strange artifacts, away from the prying eyes of House Thul's overlords, slowly feeding his connection to the Force with each knew discovery he made, whilst also making use of his naturally inherited Gurlanin ability to shapeshift to easily evade detection if and when he were to conduct any unsavoury business practices -smuggling and theft of valuable artifacts being the most apparent- all the while completely unaware that he had long ago fallen down the Dark path.

During a trip to Onderon, following a hot tip about a hidden tomb on the planet's jungle moon, Duxen, Skarr visited the local cantina in Isis, Onderon's capital city, and was quite literally down on his luck as he was unable to hire any sort of work force -again- and with practically no funding to even begin a proper excavation.

At that time, halfway done drowning his misery with several rounds of a particularly lethal combination of Corilian Ale and Tarisian Wine, he finally received the mixed blessing of meeting a trueblood Amaran Jedi female named Rena, who, coincidentally, also sought after ancient artifact. After discussing the details and recovering from a hefty hangover the next morning, the duo traveled to the moon in Skarr's less then up-to-date freightercraft.

After investigating the strange tomb (which, incidentally, belonged to the first of Onderon's royal bloodline; the Dark Jedi Freedon Nadd) Skarr began to feel connections forming between him and the energies left within, suddenly receiving visions of a great battle between powerful Force users within the tomb itself years from now, and without thinking, warned Rena not to touch any of the artifacts and then explaining his premonition to her as reason, which caused Rena to finally suspect and see the Dark Side at play within him, and accidentally revealing tat very fact to him after a failed attempt to execute him for it, thus triggering a brief brawl between the two of them, with Skarr barely escaping from it alive, his eyes damaged beyond hope of healing naturally and Rena leaving him to die on the jungle moon.

For nearly a year, Skarr was left to fend off the wild with whatever means he had available to him, making camp in the ruins of an old Mandalorian outpost. His struggle was made easier though, by the fact that, not only was he still accompanied by his bodyguard, HK-26,, but thanks to his new Force powers, he also managed to tame a pair of wild Anooba to be loyal to him, and basically act as both his hunting -and seeing-eye dogs. In that time, he began to form an unbreakable bond with the wild in a way, and combined with his now developing powers and his now burning hatred of Jedi, began to delve further into the darker side of what the Force could offer, finding that he began to rely less and less on his pets for hunting, and began to grow accustomed to using both his shapeshifting powers and the Dark Side to viciously slaughter any prey that might dwell too close to his territory...

His isolation was finally ended, when an expedition of Sith from the new Sith Empire, secretly landed on Duxan to investigate and utilise the tomb for training purposes, when their leader, a young and beautiful Sith Amaran, sensed an overwhelmingly strong presence within the jungle and promptly investigated. Following her senses, she finally came across a blind creature, shrouded in darkness that lashed out and attacked her, intent on slaughtering the intruder. She, however, could sense that this creature had an intelligence behind it and a raw, yet untrained understanding of the Dark Side, and promptly used her own powers to confuse the creature enough to incapacity it, startled to find that t he unconscious creature then morphed into a bipedal form not unlike her own - a Gurlanin!

Having then her hand stayed from any further action, the Gurlanin's droid, which the Sith had identified as an earlier make of the Hunter Killer assassin-line like the 'one of a kind' that her overlord owned, arrived and informed her of why they were stranded their.

The fact that it was a Jedi's fault was more then enough for her to take Skarr with her as an apprentice.

Roughly a year after the encounter, and with the ultimate return of the Sith Empire under the rule of Darth Revan, Skarr, after he and his "pack" were rescued and then brought under the tutelage of his Sith rescuer, instantly knew where his destiny would lead him. Soon after undertaking the trails of the Sith and becoming a well connected Dark Jedi with in the Empure, Skarr once again came across Rena and, still seek vengeance on her for stealing his natural sight from him, engaged her in combat, emerging the victor.

Ready to slay the beaten Jedi, his hand was stayed by a vision of her bowing before him under his own Sith banner, and instead lured her to the Sith Academy and, after brief confrontation that ended in a stalemate of sorts, finally convinced the young Jedi to join his side, and began to train her as one of his innumerable "Dagger" assassin's, as well as his own apprentice.

Staying with tradition, Rena first had to pass the trails of the Sith Academy whilst being under the sponsorship of her new master, which she managed to do surprisingly effortlessly. Taking a side-step from tradition, she was then placed within a group of other graduates, all seeking to be the next to enter Skarr's legion.

It soon became apparent that the master favoured Rena, and soon, both of them began to suffer changes in their behaviour. Fearing illness, Skarr consulted his vast collection of knowledge again, only to be ridiculed by the knowledge holders for not realising he had fallen inlove with Rena... Flustered by this, he tried to ignore it for the duration of her training, finding it harder and harder to do as the training began to take on the more up close and physical parts of close quarters combat...

In the end, after having surpass even his standards of training, Skarr finally admitted his love to Rena, now dubbed with the title of Azeria, and she replied with her own, the two becoming "King and Queen" of their own little Empire...

By the time Darth Malek usurped the Dark Throne from Revan, Skarr stumbled across an ancient text describing the legendary "Kyber Saber"; the mythical first lightsaber, who's blade was made of pure crystal and could increase the wielders connection too the Force tenfold, with enough power that, if used carelessly, can destroy entire planets instantly. Though the record indicate that the Saber was destroyed by it's creator, the Legend also reveals the creation of one made generations later by a Sith upstart who was killed before he could ever use it; "The Dark Star Saber", though being described as a poorly constructed knock-off, who’s baled is comprised not of pure crystal, but a combination of three different crystals within the hilt like a normal Saber, the Dark Star Saber still held the same amount of potential as the original. From that moment on, Skarr became obsess with finding it, as visions of the end of Revan and Malak’s Empires began to appear within his minds-eye, and the rise of greater, Galactic Empire…

Fearing illness, Skarr consulted his vast collection of knowledge again, only to be ridiculed by the knowledge holders for not realising he had fallen inlove with Rena... Flustered by this, he tried to ignore it for the duration of her training, finding it harder and harder to do as the training began to take on the more up close and physical parts of close quarters combat...

In the end, after having surpass even his standards of training, Skarr finally admitted his love to Rena, now dubbed with the title of Azeria, and she replied with her own, the two becoming "King and Queen" of their own little Empire...

Though the record indicate that the Saber was destroyed by it's creator, the Legend also reveals the creation of one made generations later by a Sith upstart who was killed before he could ever use it; "The Dark Star Saber", though being described as a poorly constructed knock-off, who’s baled is comprised not of pure crystal, but a combination of three different crystals within the hilt like a normal Saber, the Dark Star Saber still held the same amount of potential as the original. From that moment on, Skarr became obsess with finding it, as visions of the end of Revan and Malak’s Empires began to appear within his minds-eye, and the rise of greater, Galactic Empire…
