Man this is bad ass! A little critique:
If that's a Katana, there is no way that Zorro's blade would block it like that...bye bye Zorro

False!

Outside of Highlander and weabooland, katanas are in fact very poor swords, all Zorro would need to do in this situatio would be to flick his wrist, disengaging and most probably cutting a good one on the jap's face in the process.

Not necessarily false!

Outside of inaccurate tests and fabricated results [both for or against the katana], the katana is one of the ultimate swords of all time. I'd say THE ultimate sword, but I'm biased lol. Minute 6:03 in the video, when the katana bends after the strike, you can see that the katana is not an authentic one. The wave pattern on the sharpened edge, see how uniform it is? That's not how real katana end up. The different materials used to create the blade create a very pretty and organic wave. The sword on the video probably said "Made In China"

Also, that's rapier that Zorro is wielding, not a european broadsword. And if he were to disengage a this moment, he'd end up with a cleaved head, while the "jap's face" might have a mighty gash. Nasty Flesh wound, maybe losing an eye versus a head split in half...I don't take the gnarly face scar.

Spring steel is called that way because it springs, under that kind of stress the stresser would bounce and Zorro could disengage and kill the jap in a flick of the wrist while mr. katana would be overcome by his own kinetic force.

None are war swords, both are just dress swords used for posturing and ranking, but at least the rapier was versatile, the katana was not only rigid in it's "art" but also was of way inferior craft, it required so much work to be made not because it was made "better", but because japanese steel was plainly put: shit.

Fun fact: viking longswords were made in almost the same way japanese katanas were, the only difference was that their steel was twisted instead of folded, even the steel was of amost equal quality despite the centuries and continents of difference amonst them. So even if they are both made-in-china reproductions, there are still the most "equal" to each other there can be among swords, and the longsword owned in that test.

yea contrary to popular belief, the japanese did not invent folded steel. They just applied it in a blade design. And concerning their steel, yes, the japanese steel was highly impure, hence the purifying process of folding steel. The strengthening was just a side effect, really.

And how can you tell me the swords were on "equal" basis, when you just supported the fact that it was not a katana? The katana can only prove itself as a real, authentic katana. You take a small curved blade made in the exact same style as the broadsword, and pit it against it, of course the broadsword would win. Its physics. Remove the complexity of materials: Say a katana made of wood and a broadsword made of the same wood. Hypothetically, both are equally strong. Which one would cause more damage? The BROADSWORD. It's larger and longer, receiving more torque and causing greater impact. So yes, the broadsword owned the test against a wanna-be sword made of similar material. BUT that's not what the test is supposed to be, is it? The complexity of materials is what makes them unique, so how can that test be anything but wrong?

And I really think your wrong about how this would end. I'm a fan of Zorro, so I'll defend him. i'd say that the way he can get out of this would be that if the katana does not cut through the rapier, then "Mr. Katana" would land on him, so it's easier and less dangerous for him to just kick him off and over, tossing him away. Recovering and going in again for another fight. Then it's easy peasy for Zorro to kick ass.

Let's end this here. I don't want this thread to be about anything other than Noel's art. We can continue in notes if you wish ^__^

Well, I still think a "wanabe katana" vs a "wanabe broadsword", both made with the same quality of modern steel in the same traditional way they were made in the past, are a fair test, it's not like only the katana looses strenght by being made of modern steel, the broadsword was made of folded steel as well, and so, a modern version is equaly weakened.

It's a fair test, in my opinion.
